Part 4 Unexpected Joy

Melissa POV

Life in Full Moon Pack hasn't been the same for me since Kate left to be with her friend in the human world. I don't know what is happening to her except for the few times we talk on the phone. She assured me she is fine and has gotten into shape but nothing can soothe a mother's pain when she has not set her eyes on her only child for a complete year.

As usual Sandra dropped by to pick me. She has made that her habit since she partly blame herself for helping Kate get away. She claimed Kate might not have ran away if she didn't had a car to use, and I had abandoned my car for free rides in her own car.

I don't blame her. I think fate has decided to mess with my life this way. Every little happiness I try to enjoy get scattered before I settle down to enjoy it.

Ever since Kate left, I had literally spent all my time at the restaurant. Whether it is my duty day or not, I am always there. That is the only way to forget my sorrows when I am alone in the house that once housed me and my daughter.

Today was not expected to be any different. When I returned to the pack house late in the night after waiting for Sandra to close her boutique. I had waited for her to drop me off since I have nothing to do at home if I went home earlier.

"Hope you are holding up fine Melissa, this your face each time we are going home is not comfortable to me." Sandra said on the wheel glancing at me as she moves her eyes from the road ahead of us to me and back again.

"You already know the only happiness I have left me a year ago. I don't have to tell you that again." I said resting my head on the car headrest.

"I have told you not to be sad since you have a daughter. One day you will be a happy grandma with grandchildren to give you all the joy you need in the world."

"Thanks for the hope Sandra. I have been thinking more about Kate lately, I wish I could see her." I said and then added before Sandra could say anything. "I don't mine visiting her soon." I whispered more to myself than to Sandra.

"Just keep hope alive. You will see your daughter very soon." Sandra said as she stops the car in front of the pack house. Sandra and her husband doesn't live in the pack house. They moved out few years after them completed the mate bond and started living together as mates.

"Thanks for the ride." I said opening the passenger door to come down.

"Good night Melissa. See you tomorrow morning by 8."

"Yeah, good night Mrs Smith." Sandra giggled and waved at me. I call her Mrs Smith when I want to hype her, because she loves that name and she always laughs or smile when anyone calls her that. I think she is obsessed with that name or something, I don't know.

I hurried into the pack house and went straight to my room. I brought some food from the restaurant so I didn't have to go to the kitchen for anything.

I set down my back and the food pack on my bed and head straight to the bathroom to have a shower. After that, I put on my nightgown and sit down to eat. I at my food while thinking about Kate and how she might be fairing with her friend in the human world.

After eating I fell asleep still thinking about Kate, and the possibility of visiting her if she doesn't want to come here.

"Mom." I think I hear somebody call from outside my door. Or am I dreaming? Maybe it is my senses I told myself and rolled on on the bed to catch some little more sleep before I rise up to prepare for work. I have now been promoted to a senior chef at the restaurant, so coming to work late once in a while isn't a problem.

Then I hear a knock and the voice again, "Mom are you still sleeping?"

I jumped out of bed and rush to the door to open it because I think it's Kate's voice I hear.

Opening the door I was immediately hugged by this slim perfectly shaped blonde who was smelling too nicely this early in the morning.

I hugged her back but this doesn't seem anything like my Kate who is fat and curvy. After a while I hear her saying.

"Mom I have missed you." Did she just call me mom? "I and my friend came in yesterday but we were told that you don't return until late in the night. We decided not to disturb you cos you might be tired."

I break the embrace and tried to look into her face. "O my god this is Kate. O Kate, how much I have missed you!" I screamed and cried at the same time as I hug her tightly into my chest.

"It is me mom. I have missed you too." She whispered as she hug me back.

"What happened to you Kate. You have changed." I said with tears in my eyes not wanting to let go of the embrace.

"I lost weight. My friend took me to the gym everyday after work." I explained.

I take a step back to look at my daughter again. "You are now working?" asked.

"Yes mom. Gigi got a job for me at the supermarket where she also works."

"O my baby," I said hugging her again as more tears streamed out of my eyes. "I was planning for you to go to college." I said.

"Don't worry mom, I am fine. I don't want to strain your finances. You have done enough to see me through high school. I will be fine mom."

"You are so sweet darling. I only wanted the best for you because you are alpha blood."

"I know, everything will be fine." She disengages from me saying, "Let me call my friend to come and meet you mom."

"I love you!" I shouted after her, watching her slim figure dazzle away.

"Love you too mom." She responded and I close the door and I was jumping like a teenage girl after saying goodnight to her first boyfriend.
