haven't I given enough? (may/june)

"How the fuck could you let him do this?" Liam growls, chest heaving.

His gums itch, as do his fingertips, both his claws and fangs aching to unsheathe themselves. The facade of personhood is thin, his wolf snarling up a storm in his head, mixing with the already stinging burn of anger. Holding onto the vestiges of his control, he buries his fingers in his palms and clenches his jaw. Theo's plea of 'please don't be mad at Anika, she has a plan.' echoes in his head, but it's nothing compared to the onslaught of fire writhing in his veins. Both halves of him — the man and the wolf — have hit a level beyond angry. Maybe if the bastard was there to tell it to Liam himself it would work, or had said it to him face to face, instead of in a fucking letter...But he didn't.

All Liam has are empty promises on paper and the person responsible for it is right in front of him.

Anika, to her credit, is still standing in front of him, toe to toe a few feet away. The odd perkiness is gone, thankfully, though a deep growl starts rumbling in his chest as he notes the circles and exhausted haze in her eyes. All of it only irritates him more. What the hell is she losing sleep over?

"I can explain; alright?" Anika frowns, shoving her hands deeper into her pockets, eyes never moving from Liam's face.

His scowl deepens, the growl growing loud enough to be heard by non-supernaturals. Clearly she doesn't give a damn what happens to Theo. Not if she helped with his insane plan.

"Liam, maybe we should–"  Scott tries to cut in.

He waves a hand sharply and snarls wordlessly over his shoulder without pulling his eyes away from the druid. It's about as clear a sign for the alpha to stay the fuck out of this as he can manage. Any other circumstance and he wouldn't act like this. Blatantly dismissing Scott in such a way — disrespecting him as his alpha — runs contrary to every instinct in his body. Some small quiet part of him recoils from the anger-driven actions. He shouldn't be doing this, and definitely not so publicly. But this isn't a normal situation. Not even remotely close to one. Even his wolf is bristling at Scott's continued attempt to get him to turn around; he's not backing down, not this time. Both he and his wolf are demanding to be seen and have his anger actually heard for once rather than brushed aside.

He focuses back on the brunette, snapping, "If anything happens to him it's on you," as he took half a step forward.

"I know. Told him the same thing." Anika's eyes droop slightly, an exasperated sigh leaving her mouth. "Look, regardless of what anyone said, he was gonna go. I made sure he was at least safe."

A far deeper growl rolls from his lips, wolf bristling beneath his skin. Safe was here, with the pack, at his side. The whole of his body is quivering, rage barely contained and refusing to simmer despite the claws lodged in his palms. He doubts anyone else would be faring any better with their anchor, their lifeline, captured and more than likely being tortured, potentially even murdered, because someone encouraged him to do it. He can't be kind. Not right now. Not about this. It's a disturbingly familiar feeling, and Liam almost flinches away from the memory of the too big moon and library he still can't look at quite the same way; the last time he lost the person who grounded him.

Just like then, the only thing that feels like it will remotely help settle the raging beast in his head is giving it what it wants. But he can't. Theo's not here, and he might not ever be again. His fists start to shake at his sides, clenched so tight his human nails dig beneath his skin. The next best thing is tearing into the person responsible.

"Liam, buddy, what's going on?" Stiles whispers, somehow side stepping around him through the doorway, despite how much of the space he currently occupies with his defensively wide shoulders.
