What.
The.
Hell?
A whirlwind of questions spun through my head, nearly knocking me over. I braced myself on the bathroom counter so I wouldn't fall over.
How is this possible?
Incredible!
Do they really work?
Can I really fly?
Amazing!
How am I going to wear my uniform for work?
So cool!
What am I going to tell Jayden and my Mother?
I took a deep breath to gather myself.
I had too many questions to answer at that moment, but I had to tackle the biggest one.
I have to work today, how am I going to wear my uniform?
Somebody is bound to notice my wings if I don't cover them up, but I wanted to try something first.
Relying purely on my instincts, I beat my new wings, finally breathing new life into them.
Unfortunately, since I was still getting used to my wings, I was unaware of how hard I beat them, and I accidentally knocked over a few things that were on the bathroom counter, sending them toppling to the floor.
Oops.
Just then, I noticed the absolutely horrid smell that was coming off of me. Every substance that was covering my body gave off a putrid stench. It smelled faintly sweet, mixing with the scent of my blood.
I decided to quickly draw myself a bath. I didn't have time to heat up the water coming out of the faucet, so I took a cold bath, and got to work scrubbing off the gunk covering my body with a lot of soap . I had to soak my wings as well, but thankfully, the slime quickly washed off in little beaded patterns.
The water was freezing. The water coming into the pipes hadn't been heated by the hot, summer sun yet, so I spent my morning scrubbing myself clean in frigid water.
After I cleaned myself and dried off, I grabbed my work uniform from the closet in the bathroom. They consisted of a black, long sleeve shirt, and black pants, with dark blue cuffs on the ends of both sleeves. Along with those, it also came with a black sweater for cold days. It's summer, and hot, but it's the only choice I had.
I found the pair of scissors that I kept in the drawer beneath the counter, and got to work. I cut two vertical slits in the shirt, so I could slide my wings in and put my sweater over it, but in the middle of my work, someone knocked on the locked door.
"Are you almost done in there?" Jayden asked me in a tired, groggy voice. "I need to wash up for school."
I looked around at the bathroom. My blood was in small puddles, the bottles I had knocked over earlier and my clothes I was cutting were all still on the floor.
So, no. I'm not "almost done".
"You'll be fine not bathing for one day." I tell him.
"Ok." He said. "I still need clothes though."
"Fine. I'll hand them to you."
I grabbed his school uniform from the closet, barely cracked open the door, and slipped him his clothes.
"Thanks!" He called to me as he walked away from the door to change.
When I went to try on my newly altered uniform, I realized that my closed wings were going to stick out a little bit at the top and bottom. Thankfully, I could just pull the bottom of the sweater down and under the tips of my wings, but the tops still rounded a little over my shoulders. So I bunched up the hood, stuffed it behind my neck, over the top of my wings, and I pulled the strings in the front to secure it. I was going to be incredibly hot, but it was going to be worth it.
