Just as Pluto finished her sentence, Lynn sprung into action, barely leaving me any time to react. She leapt forward, gracefully swinging her two swords at me, narrowly missing my arms as I quickly avoided her sudden attack. The blades of her swords shredded the ends of my sleeves, revealing the bandages from the night before.
"Aww." Pluto cooed from her throne. "Did the big, scary assassin get hurt by my guards?" She giggled as if she was watching one of the colorful parades that occurred every Saturday afternoon on the main streets of the Sector, and not a one-on-one, fight to the death, cage match between two teenagers.
Her sinister laugh echoed in my ears as Lynn swung at me with her swords again, this time, barely missing my head as I dodged, sliding on the ground to avoid her aggressive onslaught. Lynn glared at me as I dove on my stomach to dodge her next attack.
Her eyes were blank and dark, not their deep, velvet blue. They were nearly black, only with a tint of their original, beautiful, blue hue. They didn't even have the little glint of life that eyes normally do, just blank and lifeless, and they felt as if she could've shredded me with her glare.
We were at it for a lot longer than I would like to admit.
She'd attack.
I'd dodge, barely.
And we'd do it all over again.
Over and over.
I stumbled over my own feet as I grew more and more tired by the minute, and Lynn saw her chance to finally get a slash on me. I tried to regain my footing after , nearly dodging another one of her attacks, and stumbled over my own feet. Seeing an opportunity for a successful attack, Lynn lunged toward me, and slashed into my abdomen with one of her swords.
Searing pain shot through my midsection as I fell onto my back, staggering from the intense pain. Blood started to seep through my shirt, and slowly dripped onto the floor. I gently touched it with my hand. It didn't feel deep, but it stretched nearly from one side of my abdomen to the other.
I couldn't die.
Not yet.
Pluto's shrill laugh echoed through the throne room once more as I struggled to get to my feet, and ended up falling to my knees.
"How unfortunate. The Army's greatest assassin was defeated by one of the President's lowly experiments." She pouted.
"Shut up." I gritted through my teeth.
But my pain just seemed to please her, because a little sly smirk spread across her face
"What good is this doing for you?" I spat through the pain shooting through my abdomen. "Putting me through this. Putting her through this. Why?"
She sat up a little straighter in her throne, her smirk still plastered on her face. "You're in my way. Both of you. And I certainly can't have that."
Lynn spun her swords in front of me. Showing off her skill, and her weapons in the most flashy way possible.
"What do you want from me?" I asked, trying to not let her see my pain. Even though it was too late for that. She knew what pain she'd inflicted on me, and she loved it.
She was sadistic.
A psychopath.
"You know," She started, completely ignoring my question. "You could've been surviving by yourself. Alone and taken care of, just like you wanted."
She was right. My ideal life would've been living by myself, surviving in the forest away from the Monarch's rule. I originally wanted to take my cousins away with me so I could keep them safe, but I've had to adjust to those plans over the past few months, settling on the idea of escaping into the woods myself.
