My parents didn't ask me how my first day at school went. I don't think they even care to hear about it.

The next day, Vin drove me to school where Imani was waiting for me right by the gate. The day went by pretty fast. We shared second and third period which were Economics and Recess.

We spent our lunch in the bathroom stalls again - thankfully not having any unexpected visitors this time.

Now, I was on my way to seventh period - Spanish which sadly, I didn't share with my best friend.

I turned up a bit late, only to see one desk empty. When I sat by the window seat in the very back, some of my classmates started staring at me.

Do I have something on my face? Or maybe it's my school supplies again...

I still haven't had the chance to go shop for new ones. I had to do it without Vin or else he'd start asking me every kind of questions and in the end he would pull the real reason out of me and try to convince me to keep my school supplies as they are.

Opening my pencil case, I opened the tiny mirror without getting it out.

Nope. Nothing on my shirt or on my face.

A few seconds later, a young woman  came in and greeted us in spanish before introducing herself.

"Buenas tardes, classé. Soy tu maestra, Señorita Alma."
(Good afternoon, class. I'm your teacher, miss Alma.)

She then proceeded to ask for our names. One at a time.

The kid in front of me, Miguel was speaking when a familiar person came through the door.

"Por qué llegas tarde?"
(Why are you late?)

He didn't reply. Instead, his eyes met mine and he raised his eyebrow in surprise.

"You're in my seat." He told me.

I frowned.

In his seat?

"En español, Dante."
(In spanish, Dante.)

"Tu estas en mi asiento." He repeated.
(You are in my seat)

"Siéntate, Dante." Seniora Alma crossed her arms over her chest.
(Sit down, Dante)

Scoffing, he sat down next to me.

Why is this happening to me right now?

"Es tu turno." The teacher smiled at me.
(It's your turn.)

I cleared my throat before speaking. "Hola, soy Tabita." I mumbled.
(Hello, I'm Tabitha.)

"Tabita?" She repeated my name as she does with everyone.

"Sì."
(Yes.)

"Et tu?" She turned to Dante.
(And you?)

"You already know my name."

"En español, por favor Dante."
(In Spanish, please Dante)

He scoffed leaning back with his chair, his upper back meeting the wall.

The teacher huffed before going on with the other seniors.

I moved to my corner, trying to stay as far as I can from Dante. He seemed annoyed. The next time I see Spanish on my schedule I'm running to class so I can pick another seat.

"Estos son sus asientos asignados para el año. No se te permite cambiar."
(These are your assigned seats for the year. You are not allowed to change.)

Shit.

He's going to hate me now. He's totally going to hate me.

The lesson went on. Thankfully, I didn't have to speak to anyone.

This class is boring.

I love Spanish. I've been wanting to learn the language since middle school but Señorita Alma is a really boring teacher.

I was coping what was on the board in my notebook when I felt someone's heavy stare on me. I didn't really think anything about it before I turned to see Dante eyeing my pencil case with an emotion on his face I couldn't read.

He probably think I'm a freak too.

Great. Not even a week in this school and I've met the mean girl trio and a boy from my class that think I'm a freak.

I hate school.

Mani had talked to me about the guys on the basketball team. The popular guys.

I had managed to not meet Johnny, Dante and the rest of their group yet. It wasn't like I was avoiding them but I was afraid that if they saw my accessories or anything, from my school bag to my pens they'd never want to talk to me again. Ever.

Now here I was with my fear becoming the truth. Dante was probably going to say to their group everything that happened in this class and they, as the stereotypical popular guys were good to tell everyone they knew and I was going to be the most hated person in this school.

When the bell rang I quickly gathered my things before waiting for the guy next to me to move so I could leave this hell and go to the shithole I call home but he just stayed there, relaxed in his seat.

I'm going to have to talk to him, aren't I?

Gathering all my strength I got up. "Excuse me." I mumbled but he didn't even move a muscle. "Can you-"

"Your shoe lace is untied." He cut me off making me look down at the black boots with the charms in the shoe laces which were laying on the floor.

I went to thank him only to realise that he had left. Sighing, I tied them.

When I reached my locker, Mani was standing there, waiting for me.

"What took you so long?" She asked.

I shook my head.

"You don't want to talk about it?"

"No, not really."

I got my stuff from my locker. While we were walking towards the exit she asked me an unexpected question.

"Why didn't you tell me you skipped last period, yesterday?"

"What? How do you know that?" My eyes widened.

"My mom asked me about you and I told her that you got your period and had to rush home. She was about to call your parents but I kind of stopped her. And let me tell you, that took a lot of convincing."

"Thank you. I didn't really feel good, so I wanted to head home and forgot to stop by your mother's office."

"You don't have to lie to me. I saw you running when the bell rang." I went to speak but she didn't let me. "It's okay. Honestly, I felt pretty shitty after hearing them too."
