I can't believe how much this story is actually growing 🙈 2K reads?? Wow..

-

When I got to school the next day Mani tackled me into a hug not letting me go before her brother had to take her off me when the second bell rang.

Dante didn't really speak to me. In fact, I hadn't seen him at all. He skipped all of his Spanish classes. He's been doing so for a month now.

Correct. It's been a month since that Saturday I saw a completely different side of that grumpy giant. A softer side.

During lunch, I was either in the back, smoking with Ryan or sitting in the bathroom stalls with Imani.

Least to say everything has been kind of normal. Vin doesn't really speak to me though. He still drives me to school and picks me up but he does it in silence and if he speaks to me, he's cold.

I still don't get why he's so mad.

Johnny, Ryan and the rest of the guys are pretty good friends. As soon as I walked in the school hallway that Monday, they asked me millions of times if I was okay and informed me none of them were present when my panic attack happened but they heard it from Johnny who heard it from his sister.

They're all very nice to me...I think my brother just needs to give them one more chance.

I don't know what has happened between them. I was afraid to ask Johnny or Ryan fearing that they'd have the same reaction as Alvin if I mentioned his name.

Now, I was sitting alone in Spanish again as per usual. I was playing with the plain and boring pen in my hands.

Thankfully, I did have the time one Saturday morning two weeks ago to sneak out when no one was home and buy some new school supplies - ones more suited for high school.

Imani asked me what happened to the old 'cute' ones as soon as she saw me in the hallway the next day but I shrugged it off saying I lost my old school bag, which I had also replaced.

Señorita Alma  was handing out the tests we had taken last week when the classroom door opened and...Dante came in.

"Dante...Mucho tiempo sin verlo."
(Dante...Long time no see.)

"Yeah, yeah...whatever." He mocked her before taking his seat next to me.

"Tabita." The teacher handed me my test with a smile.

When my eyed fell on the 'A' I almost jumped out of my seat.

"Good job. You scored highest in this class."

"So you do speak english?" Dante said.

"Yes. I do. And I want you to read my lips when I tell you that if you don't do the assessment I'm about to give out then you've failed this class."

Dante only rose his eyebrow in response.

Señorita Alma walked to the front of the class before she announced the assignment we had to complete to pass hee class this semester.

"I'm going to say this in english because I know some of you won't understand it in spanish. For this semester, you'll have to do a group project."

Most of the people in the class groaned.

"Oh, hush!"

The bell rang so she rushed to finish giving us the information of the project.

"Your partner will be the person sitting next to you. No, you cannot switch. I'll know if you do. The rest of the information will be sent in your emails. If you have any questions then you can ask me at any time." She smiled. "Dismissed."

I'll have to work on the project with Dante?!

I slowly turned to face him as the other kids started emptying the classroom. He was already looking at me. Again.

I went to speak but he beat me to it.

"What happened to your pencil case?"

"What?" I frowned.

"Your pens, notebook...where are they?"

"Um- I lost them." I lied.

He narrowed his eyes at me taking the exact same look my father does when he's trying to see if I'm lying.

"Look, um- when do you want to do the project?"

He shrugged.

"Okay...where?"

"We can go to my place..." He offered.

I shook my head in response. "My parents would never let me go over to a boy's house."

"Smart choice."

"Smart? No, it's restricting." I explained.

"They're trying to protect you."

"Yeah, right. Look, how about we meet at my place on Friday afternoon?"

"Okay." He replied before standing up and walking out leaving me there with a stupid frown on my face.

"Give him some time." Señorita Alma walked towards me, offering her kind smile. "I've met boys like him while I was transferring schools. He's a good guy, probably has some trouble at home but he deals with it in his own way."

"Yes well, we all have trouble at home."

"Yeah but how someone deals with what's bothering them is very different. Just like you need to explain that lighter to me, Tabita."

I completely froze. "What?" I mumbled trying to keep my voice from shaking.

"I've seen you running to the bathroom, while flicking a lighter. It doesn't take a genius to figure out what you do with it in that stall."

"I-"

"I won't tell anyone. But only if you promise me to try and deal with your emotions in a different way. There is no need for you to harm yourself."

I was speechless, trying to process her words in my head.

"I'm always here if you need to talk, okay?"

I nodded before getting out of my seat, quietly walking to the door.

"And Tabitha?"

I hesitantly turned around.

"Promise me you will tell someone."

I can't do that.

"Tell it to someone you can trust, okay? At least try to before it gets out of control."

I stood there looking like an idiot while trying to hold my tears back.

"Promise me. And if you cannot do that then give me the lighter." She held her hand out. "I really don't want to have to tell your parents."

I can't have her do that either...

Hesitantly I spoke, my voice almost breaking. "I promise."
