"Dad and Mom think that we both are not happy together."

"Why? Why do they think so?"

After finishing dinner, Kabir and Amaira had came to their room. As soon as they arrived, Kabir started telling her what Mom had said to him today.

"She thinks I don't keep you happy. That you want me to forget Mahima and accept this marriage."

"Did she say all this to you?"

"Yes. She thinks we both pretend to be good in front of them."

"That's why they were looking at me strangely, on the dining table," Amaira said thoughtfully, and Kabir started smiling.

"Hmm! Today, before you came, she said the same thing to me."

"Okay. But what can we do now? I can't act better than this. This is my award-winning performance. If they can see through it despite that, then I don't know what else to do now," Amaira said with a saddened tone.

"Their marriage had been almost a month now. That is, fifteen days had passed since they came from Amaira's mom's house. Since the argument they had between them, communication had ceased between them. There was a cold war going on between them. They both started avoiding each other as much as possible. There was hardly any fight or argument between them, and they pretended as if the other person wasn't even in the room. After so many days, today they were sitting together, having a sensible conversation peacefully."

"Hmm! Now what?" Kabir said, pondering.

"How will we carry on with this drama for the rest of our lives when they caught us within a month? Amaira said, thinking. "Don't you think it was a bad decision to get married?" Amaira asked, and Kabir had no answer to that.

"I don't know what to say now," Kabir said honestly. He was truly confused because both of them had tangled their lives so much, only to help their respective siblings.

"In a way, it's good. They might think that we both have issues with each other," Amaira suddenly said, pondering.

"Why?"

"Because if they become convinced that everything is fine between us, they will start asking about the baby from the next day," Amaira explained. Her eyes widened with fear, and hearing this, Kabir also started feeling scared.

"What nonsense are you talking about? Why did you say that?"

"I'm telling the truth. Sumitra aunty was telling Di and Jiju that they should make them grandparents soon because there are still a lot of problems between us."

"When did she say that?" Now Kabir was getting anxious too.

"That day when they both were leaving for their honeymoon. I was in the kitchen at that time when she was telling them."

"And why are you telling me this?"

"Because now they have started trying to resolve the issues between us. As soon as they feel everything is fine between us, they will start telling us about the baby too. And then what will we do? At least we can avoid it for some time, and then later we can adopt a child."

"What? Where did all this come from in your mind? And why should we adopt a child?" Kabir asked, confused.

"Because I want my own child," Amaira said, lifting her eyebrows as if it were a natural thing, what's wrong with that?

"You know you're crazy. And you're still a kid," Kabir chuckled at her remark.

"And you're an uncle, a very bad one. What's wrong if I want a child? I didn't ask you to take any responsibility for that child. I've seen many orphan children in my orphanage, and if I get a chance to take care of one of them, then what's wrong with that?"

"I don't understand where this sudden need to adopt a child came from. Were you already thinking about adopting a child before? Even before marriage?"

"Before marriage, I used to think that I would have my own child, maybe two. But now I know that it can never be possible. At least not until we get divorced, and I refuse to marry someone who doesn't love me, who doesn't genuinely want me in their life. And I'm not planning anything like that right now. So, tell me, what other options are available for me?" After Amaira's truth came out, Kabir was stunned. Amaira kept talking without paying attention to Kabir's changing expressions.

"I'm not saying that I want to adopt a child right now, but we will have to do it after a few years, won't we? I'm just telling you to think about it. I have already thought about all the problems we will have to face and what we will have to do to deal with them. They will ask later why we are not having our own child? And I will say that I have some issues due to which I cannot conceive. So, we are adopting a child. And then they will stop doubting us and believe our story. Simple."

"And why would you do that?"

"What?"

"Tell everyone that the problem lies with you, when that's not the truth? Why didn't you think that you could say the problem lies with me?"

"Because I want this child, not you. Yes, I will definitely request you to sign some papers, but nothing else. Don't worry, I won't give you any responsibility that you don't want. I just want your consent for this adoption, and nothing else. Like I said before, as a husband, I will never expect anything from you. I wasn't joking when I said I don't want anyone else's place in your life. I know how to keep myself happy."

"Amaira, I... I'm sorry for what I said that day. I was angry at that time, and that anger was directed towards you, even though it wasn't your fault. There's no excuse for my behavior that day. You were right when you said at that time that you're not taking someone else's place. You have your own place in this house. This house is yours."

"Are you sure?"

"Well, as you said, you're my legally wedded wife, even if you're a child. But whatever is mine is fully yours. So, if this house is mine, then legally, it's yours too."

"Oh please. You're being emotional right now. Maybe it's because of the conversation with Auntie and Uncle. Tomorrow, you'll become rude, arrogant, and a bad uncle again."

Amaira, who was sitting on the chair, stood up and said.

"Can't you stop calling me that?" Kabir said, approaching Amaira.

"What? Uncle? Did I ever ask you to stop calling me a child?" Amaira said, chuckling mischievously.

"But you are." Kabir took another step forward.

"So are you." Amaira also took a step back.

"Are you getting far into an argument with me now?" Kabir asked with a slight smile.

"Why would I do that?" Amaira asked, staring at him.

"Maybe you enjoy fighting? With me? And with others too? I don't know," Kabir said casually.

"Why would I enjoy fighting? If what you're saying is true, then I can easily give you a divorce. I'll take half the money as alimony and comfortably settle in a peaceful place. Maybe somewhere like Sentinel Island," Amaira replied.

"What? Now you're giving another reason why I call you a child. Why would anyone in their right mind want to go to Sentinel Island?" Kabir was astonished.

"Because outsiders are not allowed there," Amaira said, blinking her eyes rapidly.

"Then you must also know that you're an outsider to them. And they won't let you in at all. And this money won't be of any use to you either."

"Yes, I know that. I wish I were like them. I would stay there and find so much peace and tranquility," Amaira said, lost in her dreams. Her eyes began to twinkle again.
