RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT ME
ANGELA GIARRATANA

PROLOGUE

°°°

june 2014.

ANGELA giarratana wiped a stray tear from her face as she laid on the floor of kennedy matthews' empty bedroom.

"if i don't move, you can't leave." angela said quietly as her voice broke. kennedy laughed lightly, the salty taste of her tears falling into her mouth.

"what if i just go with you?" angela asked, sitting up against the bedroom door.

"you can't." kennedy shook her head. "you graduate next year."

angela put her face, wet with tears, into her hands. scooting closer, kennedy put her hands on angela's crossed legs.

"i'm so sorry." kennedy said. "we knew this would be hard."

angela moved her hands away from her face and wiped her eyes. "why can't i just go with you?"

kennedy cupped her hands around angela's face. "i can't hold you back, ang. you already told me you didn't want to leave la and i'm not letting you do that for me."

angela shook her head lightly. "why did i agree to this?"

both kennedy and angela sat in silence as they wrapped each other in a hug. they both sat and thought about the agreement they made months ago when kennedy was offered a job opportunity in new york city.

kennedy would need to live there full time and they both agreed that long distance might create a bad outcome for their relationship. kennedy and angela knew it would be best to end their relationship after kennedy's graduation.

"hey, ang, this isn't goodbye forever." kennedy said as they both broke away from each other.

"you're gonna make it big and forget all about me." angela half-joked.

kennedy sniffled as she playfully rolled her eyes. "i could never."

kennedy cupped angela's face with both her hands and placed a kiss to her lips. angela practically melted in kennedy's hands as she did the same to kennedy.

kennedy felt angela's hands reach for her hair. she pulled back, knowing it shouldn't go too far.

"hey, we should probably go if i want to catch my flight." she said, still holding angela's face.

angela stood up and put her hand out to help kennedy. "thanks." kennedy smiled.

angela grabbed kennedy's suitcase and rolled it on the bare wood floor as kennedy grabbed her very full backpack.

they stuffed the back of angela's car and sat in silence for a minute.

"is it okay that i still love you?" angela asked, turning her attention to the girl in her passenger seat. kennedy stared at the glove compartment in front of her. "because i can't just lose all feelings for you once you're in new york."

kennedy turned to face angela. "i know. it's okay, i can't either."

angela subtly shook her head, internally wondering why they were breaking up if they both could just put in the effort of long distance.

kennedy was thinking the same thing. in that moment, she even considered not leaving at all. however, angela started the car and drove towards the airport.
