He was stammering.

Red Son was trying his best—trying to maybe impress her, maybe share some interesting stories. But once he stood in front of her desk, he found himself stammering.

"You really remind me of my cousin! He can be shy too," Emily chuckled, carefully sorting through Red Son's books. "So, are you really going to borrow all six of these?" she asked, surprised at the sudden quantity.

Red Son nodded, scratching the back of his head. "I–well, you really picked a nice book, by the way," he mumbled, holding up the novel she had recommended earlier.

She gasped, her eyes sparkling. "Really?! I didn't think you'd actually read it!" she grinned.

Red Son blinked at her enthusiasm. "Oh, well, maybe the first two chapters got me hooked, and I didn't even notice the time while I was reading," he admitted.

Emily, overjoyed, laughed. "I know! That's why it's so good—it's my favorite! Oh, wait!" She scrambled through her drawers and pulled out the sequel. "Here, try reading Book 2! It's soooo exciting!"

Red Son couldn't help but stare in awe at the second book. Intrigued by what might come next, he accepted her offer. "I'll try reading it in my free time, I guess," he said, taking it from her. Emily didn't hesitate to stamp all six of his borrowed books.

Leaving the library with a huge grin and an air of brightness around him, Red Son could feel tingles in his stomach. With the books in hand, he grabbed his keys, only to stop when his ember eyes caught sight of two familiar green and yellow ones staring at him in surprise.

"Yo, it's Red Son!" MK gasped. Mei, standing beside him, smirked.

"Yo, Red Boy! Nice seeing ya here again!" she teased, wiggling her eyebrows.

Red Son glared at her and huffed, trying to avoid her eyes while also hiding his pink face. "What are you peasants doing here?" he asked, narrowing his eyes.

MK grinned, holding up an impossible stack of books. "I'm just here to return these to the library."

Red Son looked at the pile, baffled. How the heck did he fit those into his motor compartment?

"Right," Red Son muttered, rolling his eyes. "And I have no business meddling with you two. Bye." He turned to leave but was stopped by a harsh tug that nearly made him trip.

"Ah-ah! Stop right there, Red Boy. We still gotta do some stuff!" Mei declared.

"LET GO OF ME, DRAGON GIRL!"

"Nope! Now come on, you still gotta borrow some books, riiiiight?"

"NO! I HAVE ENOUGH BOOKS ALREADY—HEY! STOP PULLING ME!"

He tried to resist, but Mei's strength was surprising. She dragged him back inside the library, MK skipping ahead.

Once they entered, MK greeted Emily with a bright smile. "Heeey, Emily!" he beamed, placing his books on the counter.
