“So, Red Son, do you like tall girls?”

It was far too early for this. That was all Red Son could think as he wondered why the noodle delivery boy was in his workshop while he was busy working on his tech. Nearly hitting himself with a scrap metal, he glared at MK, who sat on a stool munching on chips.

“What?” MK asked, feigning innocence. “I’m just asking! Mei kind of told me...” He trailed off, grinning sheepishly.

Red Son sighed in frustration, putting down his tools. “That dragon girl really can’t keep her mouth shut,” he grumbled, rubbing his temples. “Okay, delivery boy, what business do you have here? And could you stop eating chips? You’re making a mess on my table.”

MK immediately stuffed the remaining chips into his mouth and crammed the empty bag into his pocket. “Oh, I’m just chilling, you know?”

Red Son rolled his eyes, but MK wasn’t done yet. “But seriously, do you like her? Like, you wanna date her or something?”

Red Son’s breath hitched, and he cleared his throat, turning away to avoid MK’s gaze. “N-no,” he mumbled unconvincingly.

MK raised an eyebrow, giving him a deadpan look. “Red Son, you’re terrible at lying. You know that, right?”

That struck a nerve, and Red Son felt his frustration flare. Why was everyone suddenly so good at reading him? Was he really that easy to figure out?

(Apparently, yes.)

“Come on, Red Son, it’s not bad to admit how you feel. I mean, everyone’s got emotions!” MK grinned, nodding as though he’d just imparted great wisdom. “Like, imagine falling in love, going on dates, just like those fairy tales Pigsy used to tell me when I was a kid!” He sighed dreamily, reminiscing about those simpler times when he had no grasp of reality.

“Noodle Boy, your wisdom isn’t very... wise,” Red Son grumbled.

MK frowned. “Do you even know what it’s like? You know... to fall in love?”

Red Son squinted at him. “Do you?”

“Uh... no?” MK admitted, scratching his head awkwardly.

Red Son groaned. “So you’re just basing all your ideas on romance movies and nonsense?”

“Hey!” MK snapped defensively. “Romance movies are helpful, okay? They give you ideas!”

Red Son pinched the bridge of his nose. “Ugh, I don’t even know anymore. I can’t even last a second looking her in the eye!” He groaned, throwing his hands in the air.

He’d faced giants, his own towering father, and the Lady Bone Demon’s massive titanic bone mech. He’d stared down demons of all shapes and colors without batting an eye. And yet, this librarian’s warm gaze made him feel as small as an ember in a storm.

MK’s eyes lit up. “Oh! How about this: like Mei said, once you finish one of her book recommendations, you can call her up and ask her to dinner or something. Maybe hang out?”

“I... I can’t. I can’t even form a single coherent word around her!”

“What, do you need a script or an AI-generated presentation or something?” MK teased.

Red Son froze, narrowing his eyes. “AI-generated presentation? That’s lazy.”

MK snickered but softened his tone. “Red Son, it’s not about perfection, you know? It’s about taking baby steps. Get to know her first. Baby steps,” he said, nodding sagely.

Red Son groaned but didn’t argue. He stared at his desk, fiddling with a spare tool in his hand. After a long, contemplative pause, he finally muttered, “I guess I can try. But I’m not guaranteeing any success.”

“That’s the spirit!” MK cheered, grinning brightly. “Don’t worry, Mei and I will help as much as we can!”

Red Son grimaced at MK’s over-the-top enthusiasm and sparkling expression, rolling his eyes.

“Right,” he muttered dryly.

“Oh, come on, don’t be so down! Mei’s great at this stuff! She’s watched tons of romance movies and reads books too! Though...” MK trailed off thoughtfully. “She has questionable taste in male leads.”

“What?” Red Son blinked.

“Yeah! She keeps saying red-flag male leads in novels are great. It’s something about... dark romance, I think? I dunno, that’s just what I’ve heard.” MK shrugged nonchalantly.

Red Son immediately clamped a hand over MK’s mouth. “Noodle Boy, what genre are you into?”

“Pfantasy and pwaction!” MK mumbled under Red Son’s hand.

“And?”

“Uh... sci-fi!”

“Yeah, keep it that way. Don’t touch any of those shabby-looking books.”

“Hey, Emi, what do you think about Red Boy?”

Mei casually sat on the library counter, much to Emily’s irritation. The librarian gave her a sharp look and smacked her leg with a fan.

“No sitting on my counter,” Emily scolded.

Mei yelped and jumped down, rubbing her thigh. “Fine, fine! Sheesh.” She grinned mischievously. “So?”

Emily blinked, pausing mid-typing. “Red Boy? You mean Red Son?”

Mei nodded enthusiastically.

Emily tilted her head thoughtfully. “Well, he has interesting hair, I must say.”

Mei snorted. “Uh-huh. Anything else?”

Emily paused, her lips curling into a faint smile. “Well... his height?”

Mei nearly burst into laughter.

“No, seriously. He’s tall, but I guess I’m just taller. The way he looks up at me is... kind of adorable,” Emily admitted with a soft chuckle.

Mei turned bright pink, clutching her chest dramatically. “Why does this feel like one of those wholesome romance books?”

Emily arched an eyebrow. “Why are you asking this?”

Mei fumbled, trying to come up with an excuse. “Huh? Oh, nothing! Just curious, you know!” She laughed nervously.

Emily gasped, a teasing smirk forming on her lips. “Are you interested in him?”

“What? Emily, no! I’d rather get rich,” Mei snapped, glaring at her friend.

Emily laughed softly, shaking her head. “Aw, but you two would look cute together. When you introduced him to me, I actually thought he was your boyfriend.”

Mei gasped, utterly flabbergasted. “Emily, I swear, I’ll clip that mouth of yours!”

“What? I was just saying!” Emily giggled, unfazed.
