Tuesday 9:30 AM

Too early.

Wrapped tightly in a cocoon of blankets, Red Son lay sprawled in bed, red hair a chaotic mess, eyes fixed blankly on the wall clock. He didn’t care. He was too busy internalizing the sheer magnitude of the bold move he’d pulled yesterday. At first, the adrenaline had him grinning like an idiot, but as the realization of his actions settled, he gasped. A curse slipped past his lips, aimed at the heavens, at the world, and, most of all, at himself.

He’d been up all night, sketching plans, organizing files, and sneaking out of his room in the dead of night to pilfer snacks from the kitchen without waking his parents. "Right, so since I’ve arranged all the files Emi gave me, all I need to do now is hope my charm works," he had muttered, rolling off his bed with a thud. The pain was ignored. He dragged himself upright, blanket still clinging to him like a second skin.

Emerging from his room in this disheveled state, Red Son caught the attention of the Bull Clones, who froze mid-task. He shot them a glare, sending them scrambling in a cacophony of clanging metal. His father’s voice cut through the chaos, laced with irritation.

"Boy, why do you look like a dead chicken? Clean yourself up." The Demon Bull King set his coffee cup down with an unimpressed huff.

Red Son ignored him entirely.

"Oh, leave him alone, dear. Come, Red Son, have your breakfast. Then you can change into something a little less... bedraggled," his mother, Princess Iron Fan, chimed in, her tone soft but commanding.

Red Son sighed heavily, slumping into his chair with the blanket still draped over his shoulders.

"Stop doting on him. He’ll get too comfortable."

"Shush, dear. The boy looks half-dead; this isn’t the time to lecture him."

Red Son listened to the exchange while scrolling through his phone, poking listlessly at his food. When his mother finally addressed him, asking why he had stayed up so late, he gave her the same practiced lie he always did: "Research and tech stuff, you know. Just finishing up a few things."

In truth, his phone was a battlefield, bombarded with messages from Mei and MK. They’d even created a group chat that made him question whether he had made the right decision yesterday.

---

Group Chat: "Bomb Squad"

Mei changed MK’s name to "Monkey Man."

Mei changed her name to "Dragon Girl."

Dragon Girl changed Red Son’s name to "Red Boy."

Monkey Man: Yo! Yo! Mei, did you see what Red Boy sent us?

Dragon Girl: Duh, dude sent that at 3 a.m. I was DEAD asleep.
