I was getting home from the store and honked the horn knowing Jacob was home already. He came out and helped me get the groceries in the house.
"How was counseling?" Jacob asked and I sighed.
"Your dad and I have a lot to work through, but we will get there. Don't worry about it okay?" I verified and he just sighed, and we walked into the house putting the grocery bags on the kitchen island and we started putting everything away.
"WAFFLES!" Jacob exclaimed excitedly pulling the box of frozen waffles from the bag and I laughed.
"And pop tarts." I said handing him the box to put away.
"What's for dinner?" Jacob asked and I sighed as I finished getting everything out of the bag.
"I was thinking chicken alfredo." I said and he smiled.
"With garlic bread?" Jacob wondered and I nodded.
"Of course." I said and he smiled.
"Can I go play my game until dad gets home?" Jacob asked.
"Homework done?" I asked and he nodded. "Do you need me to check anything?" I asked and he shook his head.
"Nope just had a paper to re-write and the teacher told me what to change." Jacob said and I nodded.
"Okay." I said as he grabbed a drink and headed upstairs.
I started getting everything ready to start making dinner. As I was working on dinner I got a text on my phone from Andy.
Andy: Grabbing a coffee with Lynn for a few minutes after work. I know you are planning dinner, but I will be home as soon as I can.
I sighed and looked at everything I was get ready to cook.
Mel: Okay I guess I can hold off on dinner for about an hour.
Andy: I'm sorry she just called this meeting.
Mel: No Problem. Making chicken alfredo for dinner.
Andy: Sounds amazing. See you soon.
I put my phone in my pocket and poured a glass of wine going to sit on the couch. While I sat on the couch, I looked at the photos of our lives together that were around the house. There were ones from our wedding, our honeymoon, family outings...just candid photos. Happier times...much happier.
I sipped my wine and just scrolled through emails on my phone until it was time to start dinner.
I was standing at the stove cooking when I heard the front door open.
"I'm home." Andy announced like he usually did and walked in.
I didn't say anything and just continued to cook. Andy walked into the kitchen, and he came up behind me, placed a hand on my hip and leaned in to kiss my cheek. I side-stepped out of his grip, and I heard him sigh.
"I need to go get a hair tie." I said and headed towards the steps and passed Jake standing in the doorway of the kitchen.
"You really thought that would work?" Jacob asked and Andy sighed who just grabbed a beer from the fridge.
"Not now Jake." Andy said.
"Dad, you fucked it all up. She doesn't want to be touched by you. I wouldn't say you repulse her but it's close." Jacob said. Andy ignored his son. I came walking back downstairs and looked at Jacob.
"Can you set the table please?" I asked and he nodded.
"Sure..." Jacob said, and I looked at Andy.
"Everything get worked out with Lynn?" I asked and Andy nodded. He knew I was just trying to make conversation. He was leaning on the kitchen island.
