Bursting through the door of her little sister's room Harmony was hit with the smell of vape smoke and air freshener. She folded her arms across her chest and rolled her eyes at her sister's thoughtlessness. Harmony knew Jade had been sneaking vapes from somewhere, but she didn't think she was dumb enough to use them in the house."Mama said get off the game and come help with dinner," she called out over the obnoxiously loud tv.
Although Jade couldn't care less, Harmony's presence alone halted her sister's best friend. Billie immediately looked up from the game at the older girl standing in the doorway.
The younger girl had the fattest crush on Harmony since they were all younger. It went unnoticed by the older girl who was always wrapped up in boys, but Billie's feelings seemed to never let up.
"Seriously Jade," Harmony yelled, her irritation growing.
"Why can't you do it?" Jade commented back, her eyes darted across the screen as she shot multiple people. "Billie catch up."
"Dude come on," Billie mumbled. She knew the two siblings were headed towards a full blown argument anyway minute.
"I have to get ready for prom asshole," Harmony sassed.
"Fuck," Jade threw her controller down in frustration, her head snapped towards her sister. "Can you get out?"
"Whatever, but if mama comes up here she's going to smell those stupid vapes," Harmony shrugged and walked out.
Billie's eyes watched her go, the tiny pajama shorts she wore gaining all her attention. Like always, Harmony hadn't paid the girl any mind. She was eighteen and going off to college soon so Billie was basically a kid to her.
"You are such a simp," Jade let out a laugh as she watched her best friend pine after her sister.
It was no secret to her that Billie liked Harmony. She had caught her one too many times practically drooling over Harmony like some desperate puppy. Jade knew it was a lost cause though. Her sister wasn't into girls and even if she was, Billie was too young.
"Shut up," Billie shoved her playfully. "Let's go before your mom comes up here and starts bitching."
The two girls made their way to the kitchen to help out and Billie anxiously awaited the moment Harmony would come down in her prom dress. Her eyes bounced over towards the stairs every few minutes in anticipation. She knew the older girl was going to look amazing and all she wanted was to lay eyes on her once.
By the time the food was done and the table had been set for the rest of the family, Harmony's date had arrived and everyone was waiting in the entryway for her to come down.
"Today please," her mom yelled upstairs in an attempt to rush her.
"Coming."
Not even a second later they heard a pair of heels clicking against the hardwood floor and Harmony stood before them nervously.
