Five years later

The one mile marker came into view for the third time as Harmony ran through the tranquil park. It was a Friday afternoon and most people were still working, so fortunately the area was pretty deserted.

She usually ran through campus since it often felt safer, but lately she had been inspired to try something new.

She was in her zone, preparing to attempt mile four when her playlist switched and a song she never wanted to hear again came on.

Teenage Fever by Drake was suddenly blasting through her ears making her almost trip over her own feet. She stopped running, her chest heaving up and down as she tried to catch her breath, and ripped the phone from the case on her arm.

Harmony's workout playlist had ended and the app was attempting to find something else she would enjoy. Immediately she shut the music off and let the silence around her take over.

Ever so slowly her mind started to display the unhealthy memories like an old movie. She could visualize it all like it happened just yesterday instead of five years ago. She couldn't get past it, just like she couldn't move past what happened in high school.

(flashback)

Harmony walked up to her boyfriend's dorm room preparing to surprise him since he didn't have practice for the first time in a while. He had been putting more work in with football after a few NFL teams started showing interest, which meant their time together had been getting cut short.

It wasn't like they got a whole bunch of quality time together anyway between classes, his practices, and her work schedule but the couple made do.

There was already music playing when she reached the door, an old Drake song Harmony remembered being obsessed with when it first came out. She and her friends would listen to it nonstop until it was finally played out.

Smiling at the memory, Harmony knocked a few times and waited. A minute passed with no answer so she figured he couldn't hear her. She knocked again, this time yelling out his name and the music stopped.

There was shuffling around and what sounded like mumbling before the door cracked open and her boyfriend's head popped out.

"Harmony? What are you doing here?" He asked in confusion.

He always resembled a little boy whenever he was caught off guard and for some reason she found it cute.

"I wanted to surprise you since practice got canceled. I'm going home this weekend remember?" Harmony stepped closer and smiled.

He never smiled back. His face only went from confused to worried as he eased his body between the door and the frame, shutting it behind him.

She took in his appearance, just a pair of boxers, and frowned. "Were you taking a nap or something?"
