The first time Harmony and Billie hung out as teenagers was one of Billie's favorite memories. It was Halloween, Harmony was sixteen and Billie had not long ago turned fourteen. Their parents were going out to a costume party at a mutual friend's house and they were leaving the girls alone for the first time ever.Billie was excited. She was getting to stay at her best friend's house overnight and they were going to stay up late binging horror films and eating junk food. The best part though was Jade's older sister Harmony. She was technically supposed to be watching them, but since she wasn't much older than the other two it didn't feel that way.
And Billie couldn't wait to be alone with Harmony, She just hoped Jade wouldn't get in her way.
"Ew Harmony," Jade groaned when she saw the concoction her sister was making. "I don't like M&Ms in my popcorn."
Harmony was used to her sister's whining so she just brushed it off. "Billie likes it."
At the mention of her name the younger girl looked up, her cheeks instantly turning red. Billie had been sitting quietly on a barstool watching the two sisters bicker. They always made her grateful that she had an older brother who was chill about pretty much everything.
"O-oh I don't care," Billie stammered under Harmony's gaze. "You don't have to add it for me."
The older girl continued to drizzle melted chocolate on top. "I like it too. Jade can just suck it up."
"Whatever," Jade huffed. "I'm going to go start the movie."
She marched out of the kitchen leaving the other two alone. Harmony flashed Billie a smile. She knew the younger girl was always shy around her and she didn't understand why. The O'Connells had been around since all of the girls were in early elementary school so it wasn't like they were strangers.
"You know, if you like something you should say so," Harmony spoke in code.
Billie's pulse quickened. Did Harmony know she was into her?
"Uh I don't know what you mean," the younger girl said in confusion. She wouldn't be admitting to anything if she could help it.
"Jade's a picky eater so she's going to always complain. You don't have to let her have her way," the older girl stated before munching on a handful of sweet and salty treat.
Realization dawned on the younger girl and she let out a sigh of relief. She hadn't been caught and her secret crush was still safe.
"I don't care," Billie shrugged. "I'm honestly ok with whatever."
"Of course you are," Harmony replied knowingly. Billie didn't have much of a backbone, that much was obvious.
The two girls joined Jade in the living room, Billie sitting between the siblings in hopes of keeping the peace.
