It was a bright warm day in Scarsdale, New York-first day of May. I finished packing my bags and placed them in the trunk of my grandma's car that works on solar energy. She offered us a ride to the airport.
My parents and sister, Sage, came out with their bags as well. We were moving to California to have a fresh start. Also, I'm currently helping a spirit named Val cross over. Her family lives in California, but she came to me in New York for help.
Val was only seventeen when she died. She was in summer camp with her school friends last year. One night, they were playing truth or dare. A girl dared her to swim out to the buoys of the pitch black lake. She did go to the buoys and saw her best friend, Viyella, drowning..? It turns out to be a prank. Viyella soon went in a canoe with some boys and girls, laughing her heart out.
Val's feet got tangled in the seaweed. She twirled her feet, hoping that it would slip off. Instead, her legs got tangled up to the root of the seaweed. Her legs were buried under seaweed and the water was hovering over her face, preventing her to breathe. It all happened so fast-she drowned.
Val was pissed. She doesn't want to cross over...yet. First, she wants her friends to apologize. Then, she wants to see her parents, and her brother, Chase. She wants to tell them how it was a mistake to just listen to people that she didn't even know fully.

I still remember yesterday when I was happily in New York. But today is a new day and Cali is really nice and hot. Hotter than I expected. The road of my new neighborhood is like a path to the Santa Monica beach. I like that we're close to the beach.
I smile. I finished my new room that says Clove all over it-teal wallpaper, bookshelves, and posters of friends, and famous people all over. I go outside to the personal balcony of my room to get some air. This blonde headed boy is sitting in his balcony as well. We are right across from each other. His icy blue eyes meet my emerald green ones. "Hi, I'm Cato," he says. "I'm Clove," I respond.
Just as this conversation is about to grow, Val comes out of no where and says, "Hey Clove. I just wanted to say, thank you for moving. We're closer to my family now. I can feel it." I smile a little-not at Cato-and say, "No problem, Val. I just want to help you." I forgot that Cato or anyone else couldn't see or hear Val so I basically just talked to myself.
Cato raises an eyebrow and says, "You okay?" Great, now he probably thinks I'm a weirdo with imaginary friends. I mentally face palm myself. "Yeah, just talking with my friend, Val, on the phone." I say while smile awkwardly. "Okay then," he says with his eyebrow still raised.
"So, which school do you go to?" I ask-only to break the awkward silence. "I go to Mockingjay High. What about you?" He's going to Mockingjay High? Starting tomorrow, I will go there too! My voice is filled with excitement when I say, "I'm going to Mockingjay High too!" The corners of his lips curve into a warm smile.
Maybe moving wasn't such a bad idea after all...
Here's chapter 1! I know it's kinda short, but yeah.
