Chapter III: The Never Ending Surprises

            I was becoming more and more popular due to the fact that I was dating the hottest guy in school, and now I had a bodyguard that was disguised as a childhood friend that had to move away because of family reasons when we were little. Over all I wasn’t liking the attention anymore since every morning as soon as they saw the black Benz Mercedes coming, girls and guys would line up to see what I think of as a show. Yet we weren’t there to entertain anyone and yet every morning I was being walked into school by two of the hottest guys, Luce and Kale who altered his name to Caleb. But to add to the secrets Luce told everyone that they were long distant cousins, and all the girls want to know what Kale likes and dislikes were but I didn’t know him that well but I noticed that he maintains a pretty stoic face like nothing can change his expression, and I can’t tell what he is thinking either. Every morning I would see Michael and every morning he would look at Luce and glare while he looked at me with so much sadness, and I didn’t like the sympathy I was getting from that look. But I think that Michael is hiding something because ever since I went to the orphanage to see Father Jean for my daily dosage of blood. That’s when I began to wonder where Michael was and I suddenly realized that they haven’t talked to each other ever since Michael came here. When father Jean was done with the transfusion of blood, I went out into the court yard where the 10 year olds where playing soccer. There I saw Michael with Father Roughen and as I was walking on the other side of the field they stopped and looked at me, Father Roughen looked at me with hate and disgust. While Michael looked away but I could tell he was sad or didn’t want to even look at me, and lately it was like that whenever I saw him now. Father Roughen then stopped looking at me to look behind me where Father Jean stood and I saw it in Father Roughens eyes that something a little flicker of a flame began to light up. He still hated Father Jean for being my protector despite me being a monster that shouldn’t belong here in the house of God. But when I asked Father Jean if it was okay that Michael was hanging out too much with Father Roughen even though he was his uncle, but it seemed like he didn’t care. Because he laughed and said, “that child believes his cause and they will stop at nothing, and even though they think it’s for a greater cause of peace it just creates more war. What I believe is different I want everyone to live in harmony but it would be impossible now that he is back.” Although what Father Jean said with so much justice I still felt like a monster that could never be more or less and even now as I, think about it, it sounds stupid because I know that I am a monster and I kill people I don’t have another way out. I didn’t choose this path I was born this way, and no one can change that it’s a sad fate but I chose to live with it for now since I don’t want to run away. It reminds me of someone telling me that if I ran away instead of facing my fears that I would create more problems for those around me, and yet there would be a way out eventually, and it’s true. Because I feel that every time that I face my fears I get stronger and I don’t want to run away because that wouldn’t be fair to those that are protecting me. When school ends Luce drops me off at the gates of the orphanage and he kisses me good bye that is until night comes when I go to his house since I sleep there now. It’s a good thing that nobody has found out that I escape during the night and at early dawn I wake up and go back to the orphanage. And then I leave early from there and go back to Luce’s house and change into the clothes that Luce buys me. But recently I haven’t seen Luce as much and well Kale drives me to school and takes me home but when I go back during the night Kale always tells me that he had something to attend to. And I am getting tired of hearing the same thing and when I asked Kale to tell me where he went he merely says that he went out and then leaves it at that. “Kale is Luce here today?” Kale looks at me and simply bows and nods his head, and I walk past him to my room and stay there. Then I hear the door opening and I open the door of my room and I see Luce who instantly smiles at me and I feel warm and fuzzy, and as I was coming down he went into his office and locked himself in. But like always, “why did he go into his office…Kale I am tired is Luce avoiding me because if I am a nuisance; I would rather leave.” In that moment that he didn’t say anything I ran past him and onto the heavy rain that began to fall and with that my scent would really be hidden and no tracks would be left. I ran as fast as I could to the point that I felt like I was flying and eventually I ended up in the center of the town square, and I walked towards a shop only that I didn’t go in a slumped down against the brick side of the building in the alley looking at the sky. At this time I wished that somebody would come and save me since I felt so lonely. Luce didn’t chase after me because he no longer cared about me, I then decided to stop crying over what I lost and go back to the orphanage to see Father Jean. I decided to take a short cut thru the allies when I noticed something black and making growling sounds at first I thought it was a black cat but on closer inspection it didn’t look like any creature that I have ever seen. Then a lot more appeared and I started to back away when I noticed that they were coming together to make a big giant ugly creature and I began to run not knowing which way to go. Then those things got me cornered and I tried throwing garbage can lids with all of my vampire strength if only I didn’t realize sooner that I hadn’t got energy from Luce. So I decided to stop when I noticed that it was futile and effortless so I gave up and I slumped down onto the floor and I felt the rain hitting me that’s when the hideous creature launched toward me. Then when I was sure that it would end here I had closed my eyes and shed one last single tear that is until I heard thunder and nothing was happening to me. That’s when I opened my eyes only to see that there was someone in front of me that took the injury since the claw of that thing when thru that’s persons chest and that’s when I saw blond long hair shining as thunder struck again. It was Michael and then the monster removed his claw and Michael dropped to the floor and he was bleeding heavily I could smell the blood it was overwhelming but I had to contain myself. I wrapped my arms around Michael to shield him from the rain and everything else but he began to stand up and out of nowhere a spear appeared made of silver and a diamond crystal was at the tip. Michael threw it at the demon thing and it started to twitch and it eventually dissolved and Michael grabbed my hand and made me run, and as we passed the puddle of black ooze he grabbed the spear and we kept running. Although I noticed he was holding in the pain because he kept on clutching his wound he still had enough strength to grasp my hand I could tell that he was angry. But I was really worried about him I thought that he would die at any time because he kept on looking weaker, and paler than ever. We then reach a park that I haven’t seen but it felt so calm and untouched by this time the rain had stopped, and as I closed my eyes I could have sworn that I heard children laughing. Michael left but I few moments came back and he had a white jacket and I sat on the swing swinging back and forth and thinking about what I had been thru if only Luce was with me. I was interrupted by Michael handing me and ice cream cone that tasted sweet and good and I finished it rather quick, I then want to ask Michael what that thing was only that he looked pretty angry. Michael then looks at me and begins to talk, “where is that stupid demon of yours I thought that he would be protecting you because you’re interesting to him. He is so disgraceful to the point of making a contract with you. Do you know what the contract is about?” I then realized that he hasn’t heard that Luce and I are married but then again he is using me as well so I can’t really tell if he likes me. I then decide to tell him about the contract that I made with Luce, “the contract that you think and the contract that I was told of are different, because it’s not an ordinary contract,” he looked shocked for a second then he said, “what do you mean don’t tell me that you not only gave him your soul but your body as well…are…are you crazy he is a demon, and I know that your head over heels in love with him but you can’t trust him.” I looked at Michael for a very long time and what he said made me uncertain but I wanted to see if he would think the same after he heard what I had to say about the contract. “Wait! That contract isn’t what you think, you see…that contract it…it was actually a marriage contract, and now Luce is my husband.” He immediately got angry this time he came closer towards me, “why? Why would you let him do this? You know he is just using you, he is a demon after all you can’t expect anything better from them especially not the fallen Angel Lucifer.” I got up and slapped him, “what do you know about Luce I love him no matter what he does to me I owe him that and more he has saved me from all of the sadness that I have felt up until now.” Michael then calmed down and before he spoke again he began to think about what to say but even so I wasn’t going to slap him I was just tired now and my anger had passed. “I am sorry Vivian it’s just that I want what’s best for you but if you truly love him then I have no choice, but why didn’t he come save you?” I looked up at him, “what do you mean I ran away since I was tired I didn’t see Luce as much as before and Kale won’t tell me where he is most of the time only that he is busy.” Then Michael smiles or more like grins, “those demons were sent by someone in order to kill, I just wonder who? But it’s obvious they have something against your pathetic husband who should be watching over you. Also he should have known that with getting married with someone not of the demons clan that there would be a lot of problems and not only to him but to you as well that’s why I don’t trust demons no matter what.” When Michael said that it made me feel bad but then I felt bad for another reason my stomach began to feel queasy but then the feeling left and I began to feel tired but as I was closing my eyes I saw in front of me Kale. Then everything went black and quiet and as I slept I heard people talking or more like arguing, and I slowly opened my eyes to look up at the ceiling of my room. Then I looked towards the two people talking, “I found her highness she was with the Arch Angel and it seems like they ran into some trouble,” I couldn’t see Luce’s face because the curtains were drawn in order to let me sleep in peace but I could still hear things I was a vampire after all. “Kale you are her bodyguard how could you let this happen I told you not to let her run around she could have gotten hurt or worse, and yet you didn’t inform me until now!” I was surprised to hear that he had barely heard that I had left and about Michael, which made me wonder what time it was. I slowly got up and pulled back the curtains and I saw Luce sitting on the chair and Kale standing while holding a clip board, and both turned slowly and looked my way. Luce got up and walked towards me and at first I thought that he might say that he was sorry and kiss me and stuff, but it changed when he smacked me, and I saw my life flash before my eyes. I looked up at Luce with teary eyes blinding my sight and although I shouldn’t cry I did and I was angry too because Luce had hit me. “Never make me worry like that again I thought you could have gotten killed or worse, taken away by that little angel.” I suddenly got angry and yelled at him, “well I wouldn’t need to be saved by Michael if only you would have been there with me and I wouldn’t feel lonely if only you would tell me where you went.” I began to cry so much that I didn’t notice when Luce had already put his arms around me and began to hug me and kiss my tears away. Then he took out something from his pocket, it was a rock but it was red and pretty almost amber and inside of it there was a flower that looked real. Because it was and Luce said it was a time flower that was red and it would stay alive if the two people possessed it were truly in love. “This is a time flower it will never wither or die it’s going to be alive forever as long as we love each other it will remain beautiful and my love for you is enough to keep it alive.” I looked at the diamond it was really beautiful but even so what Luce said about it remaining beautiful just because he loved me seemed like a fairy tale story, and I wasn’t sure that he loved me. Then all of a sudden Luce picked me up and threw me on the bed and began to attack me by kissing my neck and nibbling on it, which made me laugh. Luce kept saying that I tasted good and he kept on tickling me and that’s when Kale left us alone and I could tell that his expression looked like he might gag. Then Luce suddenly stopped and whispered in my ear, “sorry love but I need to go duty calls, and another thing don’t come out of this room tonight since I have some special guest and well right now isn’t the time for them to meet my wife but if they are good I might bring some to meet you. Tonight is a special night for us demons so I have to go and greet the guest as the step in king.” After that Luce left and Kale came back in and started to explain this demon celebration even further in detail, and this time he explained Luce’s role as the step in king which was to maintain everyone in order and control. I decided to look out the window to see if what he had said was true and if I could see it, so I went up to my curtains and pulled back the thick heavy curtain and peered thru the window. Right away I noticed the moon turning red and I began to freak out since I get blood crazed but this time I didn’t and then I saw a huge cloud of smoke coming. But when I looked at it closer there were demons riding on it almost like it was a train or something but there were at least 20 demons and they were kind of ugly looking. I suddenly closed the window and I noticed that Kale was looking at me rather strange, “they are coming…the demons are coming they are riding on this big cloud of smoke, and the moon suddenly turned red.” When I said that I looked back at Kale who had an odd expression then he seemed curious, “but humans can’t see the demons night much less see the moon turning red or the demons themselves…it may be rude of me Princess but are you human?” I simply looked at him and I had thought that he had always known but it seemed that he was clueless, “no I’m not human I’m a vampire only that Father Jean says that I am a special kind.” Then he thought it over for a second as in wondering what I was saying, “So you say you are a vampire but you look very different from any vampire that I have seen and for those that I have seen they have claw like nails and red eyes and they have sharp teeth apart from their fangs and that doesn’t fit your image right now Princess.” I stopped listening to Kale since what was the point of telling I did tell him that Father Jean said that I was special and well I didn’t know what he didn’t get from that. I stayed up to watch the demons dancing and I don’t remember when but I eventually fell asleep, and then I suddenly felt like I was floating in the sky and landing in a cloud.
