Chapter Song: Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar
As they settled into the conference room at Quantico, Castle couldn't contain her excitement about her upcoming book release press conference and afterparty. "Hey, guys, don't forget about this weekend! Storm Fall's release. I look forward to celebrating with all of you!
Rossi nodded enthusiastically, "Wouldn't miss it for the world Principessa."
Morgan chimed in, "Count me in Doll.'"
Emily smiled, "I'll be there Castle."
JJ added, "Absolutely."
Garcia, typing away on her laptop, exclaimed, "I've already marked it on my calendar and have my outfit meticulously planned!"
Reid, buried in his notes, looked up, "I'll try to make it," he said quietly, his mind already consumed by the new case. Castle's heart broke a bit but she knew he wasn't trying to hurt her.
Hotch, standing at the head of the table, nods in agreement. "I'm pretty sure most of us would gladly attend. Thank you for the invitation, Miss Castle."
Meanwhile the team prepared to tackle their new case,
a bunch of surprising images showed up in the big screen. Garcia pulls up visuals of frozen bodies, the eerie stillness of the scenes sending a shiver down their spines. As JJ continues to outline the case, Castle leans back in her chair, a thoughtful expression on her face. "Frozen bodies... it's like a macabre art installation," she muses, her mind already conjuring up potential plot twists and character arcs.
Reid nods in agreement, his mind already racing with possibilities. "They look barely defrosted; they were out exposed to ambient temperature for only a few hours before they were found. I wouldn't bet that this was the cause of death but for sure the UnSub wanted to preserve them" he offers in his tone analytical.
Castle interjects with a wry grin, injecting a hint of levity into the somber atmosphere. "My first cold case," she quips, earning a few chuckles from the team.
As they delve deeper into the details, Reid's insight into the psychology of the UnSub prompts Castle to offer her own perspective. "It's more than just preservation," she muses, her tone contemplative. "Freezing a body is a way to hold onto something, to keep it close, even if it's no longer alive. But if you discard it... it's a way to erase, to forget. The Unsub isn't just preserving bodies; they're trying to erase something."
Hotch nods, acknowledging the observation. "So, we're dealing with someone who not only wants to preserve the bodies but also wants them to remain hidden."
Rossi leans back in his chair, crossing his arms. "And it seems personal, targeting married couples."
Morgan furrows his brow. "Any connections between the couples? Work, social circles?"
