SCARLETT

I didn't want to deal with Xavier's bullshit right now. He had vanished with no trace of revealing where he was going and that had cost Mindy to be taken and my near death experience. There was nothing anyone could say to change my mind about how angry I was at him for leaving me alone to fend for myself. He was careless to think that nothing bad could happen while he disappeared without a trace.

Forcing myself to sit up despite Cyrus' words, Zayn was immediately by my side, placing a hand on my shoulder to stop me from sitting up anymore than I already had. He gave me a warning glance before helping me sit up against the wall. It was still painful but nowhere near as painful when I had tried to sit up by myself.

"Take it easy, Scar. You were pretty badly hurt." He said softly as he kept me pinned against the wall with a firm but gentle grip.

"How the hell did manage to get to me in time?" I asked.

Glancing at Xavier who was leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed. His expression was blank as we locked eyes. It was as if he was shielding his emotions from me, which confused me. The longer I stared into his eyes, the more I began to notice the slight bruising around his face. I had a feeling his knuckles would be in the same shape. It was only then that I noticed Zayn had his own small amount of bruising and cuts on his own face.

"Relax, Scar. We worked it out." Zayn chuckled.

"Well is anyone going to tell me what happened then?" I asked, exchanging my gaze between the two in hopes one of them would start talking.

Zayn sighed. "I got a call that morning, Scar. It was our father. He told me that he knew exactly where you were and that he would kill you and Mindy if I didn't lure Xavier away from the cabin. When I refused to do so, he sent Darren along with a few others after Caleb and I. I managed to escape but Caleb stayed behind to distract them." He paused. "I knew they would send someone after you next. So once I was safe, I called Xavier and explained that they would be coming for you."

"So now my father has Caleb and Mindy. Well this is just great!" I interrupted, Rolling my eyes.

I tried to stand up, but Zayn put his hand on my shoulder again, keeping me seated. I was thankful he did because immediately following my movement, came a wave of sharp pain. Wincing, I leaned myself back up against the wall, slamming my fist into the cot in frustration.

"Not so fast, Scar. You need to rest." Zayn said as let go of me. "Here, I'll go get you something for the pain." Zayn left the room without another word, leaving me alone with Xavier.

Xavier took the opportunity to walk into the room so that he was standing only a few feet from me. "Are you alright?" He asked.

"Do I look alright to you?!" I snapped, shooting him a glare. "You're the reason shit went downhill! You could have stayed and protected Mindy!"

"You are well within reason to hate me, Scar. I had no idea Hector would attempt to kill you. Not if he works for your father." He sighed. "And I will get Mindy back. Alive."

I wasn't sure if I could believe such words. For all I knew, he could already be hurting Mindy behind Darren's back. That thought made me shudder. I could see Darren not knowing. My father was always careful to make sure no one saw or heard about such abuse he chose to do. There were ways to avoid it and it angered me that I was one of his first Victims and now Mindy would be.

By the time I looked up from the floor, Xavier was one and Zayn was back in the room where he proceeded to give me a glass of water and a few pills of Tylenol. He left soon after, not saying much other than that we would get Mindy back one way or another. I wasn't sure if they would try anything while I was unable to intervene.

As the minutes went on, I allowed myself to lie down and get some actual rest. Still woozy and cold, I pulled the small blanket folded at my feet, over me. It was thin but there was a certain softness within the fabric that was comforting. It felt like hours before my tired eyes were finally heavy enough to stay closed and I found myself drifting off to sleep, awaiting the nightmare that I knew would come.

"Hello?! Is anybody there?!" I called out beyond the darkness.

It was pitch black and the only sounds were of my words echoing off of that darkness. I could feel another presence but they were nowhere to be seen. The further I walked into the darkness, the more a small light started to form in the distance. The sound of crying started to fill the darkness. As I came closer, the crying was nearly deafening. The light was blinding, making it impossible to see who it was.

"Who's there?!" I called out above the noise, only to be rewarded with silence.

The crying stopped instantly and the blinding light faded into a low light like a candle in a secluded room. There was a small figure curled up in a ball, sniffling. Walking around to see who it was, I could see the small bruises and cuts covering her entire body. Her dark hair in nothing but knots as if it hadn't been brushed in ages. She was a small frail thing as if she hadn't had a proper meal in days. Her face was all puffy and swollen from crying. The longer I stared at her, the more I began to notice the biggest detail of all. She was me.

The second I noticed, she sat up. Her eyes staring into mine with a sadness I recognized whenever my father would come into my room to do whatever he wanted. She tilted her head, frowning as she wiped her tears away. She gave a saddened smile as I crouched down to meet her eyes.

"Are you going to tell him?" She asked in a small weak voice.

"Tell who, what?"

"He hurts me." She suddenly said, avoiding my question.

"I know."

"He'll hurt her too. You have to stop it. Promise me you'll stop it!" She begged, grabbing my arms with a tight grip. As I looked down, her small fingers barely wrapped around my arms as her nails dug into my skin. Wincing from the sharp pain, I tried to pull away but her grip only tightened. "Save me! You have to save me!" She begged again.

As I looked up, it was no longer the younger me in front of me anymore. It was Mindy in the same shape the younger me had just been moments ago. Tape bound her wrists and ankles together.  Tape covered her mouth as she let out small whimpers and she was looking up at me with pleading eyes.

Reaching for her, I tried to take the tape off but the second I was in reach of her, my hand passed right through her like she was a ghost. The more I tried to help her, the more ghostly her appearance came. The more she faded, the more panic rose within me. I kept trying over and over again to grab her but within seconds she was gone. Tears were streaming down my face as there was nothing but darkness once again. I was alone once more.
