SCARLETT

"Well that's not exactly how I expected this to go." My mother said as she adjusted her jaw from the blow I landed on her.

I was pacing around the room now, trying to make sense of how she was standing in front of me now and how she came to know Xavier. There were so many questions I wanted answered but they were all overlapping each other, making it impossible to decide what to ask first.

Where the fuck were you?! How do you know Xavier?! Why out of all the time that you were supposedly dead, you chose now to come back?!"

"I'll answer every question you have. But You'll need to sit down for it."

I stopped pacing, clenching my fists as I stared at her in anger. "You knew dad was after Zayn and I, didn't you?"

"Yes. But not just the two of you. He knows I faked my death, Scarlett. The day he found out I was alive, he made it his life mission to hunt the three of us down. He wants the family he never had and he's very determined to get it."

"Scar, sit." Xavier demanded as he grabbed my arm.

"You knew! And you didn't tell me?!" I snapped at him.

"I asked him not to, Scarlett. I've been keeping tabs on you for a while. Before and after you came into the possession of Xavier. So you have no reason to be mad at him." My mother explained, stepping forward.

"Oh, I have plenty of reasons! But this! How could you?!"

"Sit down!" Xavier snapped, pushing me into the edge of the bed. When I stayed on the bed, he relaxed, turning to my mother. "Continue."

She smirked, pointing a finger at him as she looked at me. "I see you have the same choice of men as I've had."

"Just shut up and explain yourself before I leave!" I snapped, looking away from the two of them.

She went on to explain that since the very first day she faked her death. How she was given a cocktail that slowed her heart enough to be undetectable by the human hands to where she hired fake EMT's to respond to a specific address. The address we used to live in. She went on to explain how a single blow was all it took to make it look like my father caused it and then how the EMT's took her to a location where she spent time recovering and keeping eyes on me. It turned out she had been growing her own gang in secret and it had grown far larger than anything I've ever known. She kept them scattered across the city in small groups, careful not to reveal herself.

It infuriated me how Xavier had known my mother was around and how Xavier had been working with my mother for months before my father decided to find a way to kidnap me. She had refused to come to my aide when my father had me in his possession because she knew that's exactly what he wanted. When she had called Xavier about where I was, she had met up with Zayn and explained everything to him and how I couldn't know anything until the time was right.

Putting my head into my hands, I sighed as I was drowning in all this new information. "So why now?" I asked after minutes of silence.

"Because you need my help. Your father will stop at nothing to get what he wants. I'm done running and I know you are too." She explained as she sat down next to me. "I should have killed him years ago but I was a drug user. An alcoholic who couldn't defer my left from my right. Now that I've cleaned up my act, it's time to put an end to the one who started my wrongs. So what do you say, Scarlett? Are you going to let me help you kill the bastard or do you think you're capable of doing it yourself?"

I refused to admit it out loud, but I knew she was right. I stood no chance of killing my father without risking the lives of Mindy and Caleb. But now it made sense for him to keep them alive. He wanted a trade. Their lives for Zayn, my mother and I. He was going to get his wish but he wouldn't get to cherish it before I put a bullet in his head.

"I'll help you." I finally said, standing up from the bed, walking towards the door. I stopped a few feet away from it before turning to my mother. "But when he's dead, you're gone. You left my life and now you can stay out of it."

"If that is what you want."

"It is." I said nothing else as I opened the door, walking out as tears streamed down my cheeks.

Before I could get into the car, Xavier placed a hand on the frame, stopping me from opening the door. I turned towards him, slapping him with as much force as I could. It didn't seem to faze him as he stood there, still keeping his hand on the car door.

"I thought we were done with the secrets, Xavier?! What the fuck is this?!"

"I wanted to tell you. But it was her request that I didn't. Telling you would have only made things worse for you. It would give your father an even greater reason to kill you or anyone else close to you."

"Really?! Don't make excuses for her now! She knew what she was doing! For all I know, this is her just following my fathers order and trying to trick me! I'm not falling for it, Xavier! She can go to Hell with my father for all I care! When I kill him, I'll put a bullet in her too! It's more than she deserves!"

Slamming my knee into his groin, he doubled over, groaning in pain. Without a second thought, I started to walk down the street. I was going to find my father. I didn't care what I agreed to. I needed to be the one to kill him and I was done following everyone else's orders. I was better on my own.

I hardly made it passed a block before Xavier was pulling the car up beside me, driving at a slow pace to match my own. "Get in the damn car, Scar."

"No! You can go fuck yourself, Xavier!

"Oh, for fuck sakes woman!" He slammed on his brakes. Before I could even blink he was out of the car and swooping me over his shoulders. He started carrying me to the front passenger side of the car. He quickly dropped me onto the ground, causing me to let out a gasp of surprise. "Are you done acting like a child? Or do I need to throw you in the trunk until we reach the house?"

"Fuck you!" I spat.

"Well, then." He grabbed my arm, readying himself to pick me up.

"Okay! Fine! You win! Just let go of me!" I tore myself from his grip, standing up.

He opened the door, smirking as he gestured for me to get in. As I did, he leaned towards my ear. "Real mature, by the way. Next time, you might want to knee a little harder if you really want to do some damage." He snickered as he slammed the door before I could say anything.

The drive home was filled with nothing but silent tension. Once we were inside, he dragged me down to the basement and into the bedroom, slamming the door behind him. He gestured to the bed as anger expelled off of him. He was angry at me and this time I craved it. I enjoyed seeing him annoyed at my stubbornness and determination to be selfless.

Reluctantly doing as he told, I sat down on the bed. He stood just centimeters in front of me, grabbing my chin with a tight grip. I was waiting for whatever punishment he chose but was completely stunned when he suddenly aggressively kissed me on the lips. The sudden action threw me off since I knew he was angry but it was the sudden grabbing of my wrist that really threw me off. And then I heard it. The clicking sound as cold metal wrapped around my wrist. Pulling back, I glanced at the handcuff that now trapped my hand to the railing of the bed. Xavier stepped back, crossing his arms as an amused but angry look crossed his face.

"Sorry, Scar. But I can't risk you doing anything stupid. I'll join you in an hour." He left the room. Just as he closed the door, I found the closest thing possible, which happened to be a book, throwing it into the door as I let out a frustrated scream.
