Sticks and stones will break my bones... but words will never hurt me.
I wish it was true. I really really wish it was true, but it isn't. Words hurt, and if you are human, your words have hurt someone before. You may think they'll never know what you said. But people talk, and if you say something about someone, it will probably get to them at some point.
The group of girls who nicknamed me Creep never knew that I would realize, but someone told me and I did. They thought it was completely normal to insult people and judge them behind their backs. They might not have even considered it as sin.
They might laugh when I trip and fall. They point and whisper, acting kind to my face but then tearing me down whenever I'm not around. Maybe the hatred stems from jealousy, or maybe something else. No matter the reason, it is still horrible.
I'm not even the only person they insulted. They insulted me for talking to much and being "too friendly". The other main girl they targeted was a girl with autism. It made me realize how much hatred was out there for anyone who was different from them. They don't hate becuase of skin color or other similar things, because that would be bad. But they find other ways to hate, and they choose to hate based on personality traits... still things people cannot control. They hate people because of their mental struggles and tear them down as much as they can to feel better about themselves.
I've heard many insults from them. Creep. Idiot. Too friendly. Clingy. I've even heard them say they wish I was dead.
Those words would still echo through my mind, but there is something far greater that pushed them away... the truth I find in Jesus Christ. Judgment belongs to the Lord, and though my instinct is to get revenge, I have to learn how to pass it to God.
