where a blinding light shone
on you every night
and either side of my sleep
you were held frozen like
an angel to me.

Andromeda
Andromeda followed Luke out of the big house, her thoughts racing with worry for Percy, Annabeth, and Grover. The demigods had dispersed quickly, their faces somber, each one burdened with the unspoken fear of war and the mystery of the stolen bolt. The sun was beginning to dip below the horizon, casting long shadows across Camp Half-Blood.
As they reached the path leading toward the cabins, Silena caught up with them. She tugged on Luke's arm, pulling him down to whisper something in his ear. Whatever it was, it made Luke grin. Silena flashed a mischievous smile before darting off, leaving Andromeda and Luke alone again.
Andromeda gave Luke a curious look. "What was that about?"
Luke's smile softened as he turned to her, his voice a low murmur. "Your birthday party on the beach," he said, a hint of amusement in his eyes. "But, try to act surprised."
"A party?" Andromeda echoed, her eyebrows arching. Her voice dropped, serious. "Is that really the best idea right now? With everything happening, with the war...?"
Luke's smile faltered for a second, a flicker of unease crossing his face, but he quickly replaced it with his usual calm confidence. He squeezed her hand, his thumb brushing across her skin in a way that sent warmth all the way up her arm.
"Try and talk Silena out of it, I dare you," he chuckled, his warm, happy expression returning. "No, but seriously, the war will just have to wait. You're more important."
Andromeda felt her stomach do a flip as she looked up into his dark brown eyes. As the sun hit them, they looked like warm honey, like rich soil, like liquid gold.
She let Luke pretend to waste time by taking the long route to the beach, but she didn't mind. She would give any excuse to spend a few extra moments with Luke, especially when they were on the brink of war. Luke seemed to feel the same way.
They took their time walking through the forest, their path winding and indirect. Luke led her through the trees as if he had nowhere else to be. Their hands swung loosely between them, fingers interlocked, and Andromeda allowed herself to enjoy the stillness, the brief reprieve from the storm that was looming ever closer. The world felt distant here, the forest absorbing the tension that had been swirling around the camp. Sunlight filtered through the branches, painting the forest floor in patches of gold and green, the late afternoon air thick with the scent of pine and saltwater. Luke looked radiant in this light, his skin glowing in the soft hues of sunset.
