𝙻𝚄𝚃𝙴'𝚂 𝙿𝙾𝚅—
A sunrise only got ten times more beautiful in heaven. The rays shone between where the skyscrapers stood, offering hues of peach and rose shades. These weren't the type of buildings that were considered 'industrial hell', too. They were a cross of modern architecture but the beauty and detail of Roman cathedrals. They looked sustainable, non pollutive. The streets were filled with angels and winners, off to their own tasks of today, or simply basking in the perfect land surrounded by those that they loved.
Yet being beside Adam made everything positive feel like it was repelling off of a shield that surrounded us. As we walked side by side through the street, he did nothing but talk. He spoke of the band he played in, the music scene of heaven, the girls that make up his 'exorcist' army, whatever that means, and the ones he liked hooking up with the most. I must of been just an open ear for him to have, I didn't respond once, nor was my interest really piqued once. When he discussed music, my attention was mostly his, but as soon as he started talking about his risqué lifestyle, I tuned him out once again.
"So, you know how to fly yet?" Adam nudges my arm, and I finally take a second to glance over at him.
"No... my wings feel foreign. It's like I grew an entirely new limb, one I have yet to master..."
"Well, no shit, Lute. You did grow an entirely new limb. I'm asking you this, because to access the training centre, you're going to need to fly up."
"Whatever, whatever... I think I'll manage to figure it out."
There was a few more moments of walking and Adam venting, until they reached the training centre. He really wasn't kidding. It was a large skyscraper, with no bottom levels, a decorated marble display. It spanned up a hundred metres, until the building opened up with a 'landing pad' of sorts, a platform that had angels exiting and entering from, through flying. Past the landing pad, multiple storeys above spanned the rest of the building, appearing almost as a regular office skyscraper. I stopped in my stop, gazing up in absolute admiration at this building... yet worry. How the hell was I going to manage?
"Are you sure you don't need any help, Lute?" Adam was already up in the air, flying up higher and higher, yet not leaving my earshot.
"I'm fine, I said," My stubbornness was really going to be the death of me, if you can even die again in the afterlife.
"Alright, that's your choice, Big Shot!" Adam flew up the rest of the way towards the top platform. Once I could barely see him clearly, I gave it a shot.
Extending my wings outwards, I thought a running start would help me. Going into a slight sprint, I tried my hardest to flap the wings I barely knew. I leaped off the ground... and I was in the air! Keeping my wings flapping, I eyed downwards at the concrete a metre beneath me. I was doing it!
"Haha, holy shit!"
I tried to pursue higher up in altitude, and it was growing more difficult. I got up a decent amount, yet I was also going to the side rather than straight. My balance was completely off, and at one point I was so confused, that I ended up stopping my wings movements, and falling.
Thankfully, a white blossom tree surrounded by park benches caught me before I could get injured, if that was even possible. My hands grasped the thick branches. I took a second to breathe, before I flapped my wings and continued upwards.
It took an embarrassing amount of time, but I was a quick learner of my new form. Far from as fast or efficient as the others, I learned my balance quickly, and after a few awkward minutes, I eventually ended up at the top of the platform, collapsed forwards and panting like all the air in my lungs had been ripped out.
