You'll understand the chapter better if you watch this video."Hi Sandra!"
She was running around in a frenzy.
"Hey Nithya! How 'ya doing?""Can I help. I feel bad you're doing loads."
"Are you sure? It would be really helpful though," she smiled.
"How is stuff going in your department, we don't see you a lot nowadays?"
"So much work. Gareth is going a bit too harsh on all of us but we gotta get through this."
Her phone rang with the same 2000s song that my brother blares during his 1 hour bathing ritual (aka a song that he put on the shower playlist).
"Hi Kathir. Yes I'm here."
She sighed,
"Come to the copy room."I'd never seen her this tired before.
"Shall we all go out for lunch later? Soup of the day at Cleo's looks fabulous!" I asked to hopefully get Sandra to have a break.
AAH I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SOUP IT IS TODAY! WHAT IF SHE ASKS!
She shrugged and then arch an eyebrow at me. The blonde said,
"Nithya, you don't like soup. What's up with you?""But you do Sandra. Our team hasn't had a proper lunch in ages. You need a break."
She dropped her pile of paperwork on the table with a thud and skipped over to me, squeezing me in a hug.
"Aww my little Nithya. Yep I will organise this lunch." She said patting my head.
...
We sat in booths at Cleo's. I sat between Felix and Ed. Sandra and Kathir sat opposite me.
"Earth to Felix," Sandra waved in front of him.
He awoke from Felix daydream land.
"I was just thinking," Felix said cautiously while turning his head.
"I'm quite relieved that we don't have to have lunch with Gareth."I DON'T THINK ANY OF US WOULD WANT TO HAVE LUNCH WITH THAT GRINCH.
"Yep it has been quite stressful," Sandra admitted.
"We had assessed practicals," I added.
"I'm sure that was completely unnecessary. At least now you're paid to do tests unlike in secondary school," said Ed.
"Yeah I saw him shout. That dude has some anger management issues," Kathir added.
Ed was humming quietly.
"Ed!" Sandra exclaimed, eager to change the subject. "We totally need to get you to perform for us."
"Yeah we haven't had a chance to hear your singing before," Felix piped in.
"Yeah sing songs from different parts of the world in a medley," I suggested.
"Only if you do publish your expression scrapbook!"
"Awww Ed!" I whined.
...
A clumsy person doing yoga is sometimes not a good idea. Especially during the shoulder stand when you try to lift yourself into position and BAM! Your legs don't co-operate and you knee your head like a footballer doing keepy uppies.
NOT COOL NITHYA NOT COOL.
I sat up rubbing my now sore forehead.
So much for doing yoga in peace. I wondered where Bhairavi was and how she was doing.
I got up and checked the house. My mum was sleeping and my dad was sitting by himself.
I went up to him with Bhairavi's book.
"Hello Appa. Do you think I can perform Sri Ganesha charanam?" I asked, pointing to the first page of Bhairavi's book."
"Of course Bhairavi, check with mother that your pronunciation is right dear."
He had though that I was Bhairavi and looked at me with sadness in his eyes.
I asked him
"What's wrong Appa?""I miss your dad. He was a good man and such a waste that he had to die."
At the moment my mum came in calling for me.
"Nithya isn't here. She's sleeping be quiet!" my dad scolded.
My dad must have been in the past in the 90s where I was a baby and Bhairavi was grown.
My mum had tears in her eyes. After all it was difficult looking after someone with dementia.
She eyed the book I was holding.
"By the way Emma's at the door for you."
"Thank you amma. I smiled. "
THANK YOU EMMA FOR SAVING ME BY THE BELL.
OWWWWWW!
My stomach was aching again as I walked to let Emma in.I headed straight to the kitchen with Emma in tow.
"Are you making something for me?" She asked, oblivious to the contorted expression on my face.
I put the cumin and cardamom pods in one pan and poured water to let the mixture boil.
"Ewwww actually thats gonna taste bad."
"I know but it's medicine."
"Homeopathy is just a scam. Why would you drink this?"
She took a glass for herself and poured some to taste.
"Urgh get that out of my sight. Nithya, you are strong. I'll withdraw all the times I called you weak."
That girl could make me smile anyday.
"You know, it tastes worse without cardamom. Would you like some?" I taunted.
"No it's okay. Time to run!" She ran escaping the cumin water.
