In the Central City Hospital, Gridlock is in the ICU room. He's in the bed with both of his arms wrapped and stitched up, including wearing a neck back brace. He's sleeping, while being watched over by a doctor named Vanessa Ambres.

While she was glaring at Gridlock, another doctor came into the room.
Doctor: Hey, Vanessa, we need you up top. Who's that?
Vanessa: Another meta who went crazy around town today.
Doctor: What happened to him?
Vanessa: Apparently he got stabbed multiple times and got his back broken.
Doctor: Yeesh, did they say who did it?
Vanessa: Nope, but who ever did it, good job and good riddance. So, you need me for something?
Doctor: Yeah, something happened upstairs, we need your help.
Vanessa opened the cubicle curtain around Gridlock and left him alone. A couple of minutes after the two doctors left, the door opened and then closed. The sounds of footsteps can be heard in the room. The curtains moved, and the footsteps came right to Gridlock. Gridlock started to move his eyelids and groan. He opened his eyes, he saw a metal scrap that had cracks with glowing orange and shaped as a lightning bolt.

Gridlock tried to say something, but his mouth was covered with a white gloved hand. All he could do was muffle and hear a sound that will be the last thing he'll ever hear.
