Jinpei looked at Yoko with a bored sigh. She was half-hidden under her blanket, which was pulled up to her face. The two looked at each other blankly.
-You're in no state to go to school. Said the man finally.
-Mmmh...
-Anyway, you've got no choice but to stay here.
-Mmmh... I don't want to...
-Oe... You're forcing me to stay here and you're allowed to go out? You're going to stay in bed!
He sighed, annoyed and annoyed. It could be so complicated sometimes, looking after a child... especially as she was ill, having probably caught whatever her guardian had.
-I'm going to check if there's any medicine left...
The policeman left the room and went into his own. He must have left some there when he himself had the flu. And he found them quite quickly. He took the time to see if the medicine were suitable for a child. Then he went back into the other room.
-Do you know your weight? He asked.
-Eh? Er... not really... Why?
Jinpei couldn't help but sigh, annoyed.
-Never mind. I'll go to the pharmacy. But in the future, it would be useful to know your weight.
Jinpei straightened up, not without putting a hand over her face, feeling really unwell.
-But... You're not going to be late? She asked, not without coughing.
-After being away for a few days, a little delay isn't going to change things, huh?
With that he left, leaving the little girl alone. She sighed and fell backwards, her head hitting the cushion. She put her arm across her forehead, drifting off to sleep.
Jinpei came out of the pharmacy, one hand in his pocket, the other holding a tin of syrup for his protégée.
He grabbed his phone and looked at the time. He was running late. But honestly, it didn't matter to him. He had a good excuse, no one was going to tell him anything.
He returned to the flat before entering the girl's bedroom.
-I brought you some sy...
He fell silent immediately as he discovered her sleeping.
-So...
He looked at the bottle of syrup with a bored expression before placing it beside Yoko's bed. Then he closed the door and left the flat. He wasn't too worried, knowing that she could manage on her own. And if she had any problems, all she had to do was call him.
The man arrived at his workplace with a yawn. He saw Sato and Takagi chatting together, before the woman started to walk away. Then she spotted the new arrival.
-Ah, Matsuda-kun. I was wondering if you were coming today.
-I've finally managed to free myself. He said, raising his shoulders and putting his hands in his pockets.
-It's not like you were in prison...
-Yeah, yeah...
The policeman moved away before settling down at his desk. He couldn't help yawning again under the bored gaze of his colleague. She sighed.
Takagi looked at the duo, a little saddened. Now he was going to be alone again. But at least he had managed to get some attention from Sato, albeit briefly.
Yoko woke with difficulty and sat up on her bed with her hand on her head. She wasn't feeling well at all.
She looked around before grabbing her phone and checking the time. It was past three. She was a little surprised to have slept so long.
She was about to get out of bed when she noticed the box containing syrup. It took her a moment to remember that Jinpei had gone to get some. She must have fallen asleep before he got back.
She grabbed the box and took out the contents before helping herself. She winced at the taste but forced herself to swallow.
-It's not good at all... s
She complained before starting to cough.
The young girl finally got up, but not without staggering, and left her room. She went into the kitchen, grabbed a glass, filled it with water and forced herself to drink it. It was still better than the syrup she'd had previously.
Then she went and settled herself on the sofa, turning on the television.
-I hope Matsuda-keiji didn't have any problems...
She lay back, staring at the screen before gradually drifting back to sleep.
The end of the day had arrived. And especially the end of the working day for Jinpei, although it was a quiet day.
He unlocked the door of the building with his badge and started to open it before turning round when he heard footsteps. The policeman looked surprised and then annoyed.
-What are you doing here... Zero.
-I was just passing by.
The policeman smiled before pushing open the door of the building.
-Hurry up or I'll leave you outside.
The two of them soon reached the floor where Jinpei lived. Jinpei unlocked the door and was the first to enter, but not without taking off his shoes. He was surprised to see his flatmate asleep on the sofa, the television still on.
-She's not possible...
He shook Yoko awake. He could then take the opportunity to ask her how she was. For his part, Zero entered the flat.
It wasn't long before the young girl woke up. She sat up, rubbing her eyes and coughing a little. She looked at her tutor, in a moment of slight incomprehension.
-Hi, Matsuda-keiji...
-You don't look any better. He sighed.
Her response was a shake of the head. In any case, even without confirmation, the girl's face clearly indicated that she wasn't at her best.
-I hope you took the syrup I brought you.
-Yes, I did.
-Have you eaten?
Another shake of the head in reply.
Jinpei sighed again before turning to the guest. Yoko noticed him then. She hadn't seen him come. She remembered that he had already come, the day the policeman had nearly burnt down the kitchen. Amuro Tooru, if she remembered correctly the name under which he had introduced himself.
As for the blond man, he was surprised by something. The girl had cut her hair. And she wasn't wearing glasses any more. And so he had a feeling of déjà vu.
