Children's Mercy Brave Little Hot shot and Best Friends vs Brain Tumor

Chapter 2

Hot shot was in Children's Mercy Hospital. Hot shot had just found out he has Medulloblastoma. Which is brain cancer and he was going to need treatment. Hot shot had the surgery a few days ago to remove the tumor to help diagnose it. It also helped relieve the pressure on Hot shot's brain. But the doctors think there might be some of the tumor left. The doctors said because Medulloblastoma is a cancerous tumor it needs more treatment. Hot shot found out that a brain tumor like Medulloblastoma happens when a cell breaks. When a cell breaks it grows and divides out of control. When the cells divide out of control it can then form a lump called a tumor. When the tumor starts in the brain it is called a brain tumor. When the tumor is cancer it needs more treatment along with surgery. Hot shot was going to need chemotherapy and radiation. Hot shot had his central line catheter put in just yesterday. It was a type of central line called a port a cath, it was a tube in a vein in his heart attached to a port with a little access area and reservoir under his skin it was to help him get treatment. He was told he would get a needle put in his port to help give him his medicine.

Hot shot was thinking about a lot. He was thinking about having cancer, what it was, why he has it. He was also thinking was it his fault. Hot shot was thinking about many things. His chest was still hurting from having the port a cath put in.

Hot shot was having a hard time sleeping and staying asleep. He woke up he was having a headache. "Ow," Hot shot said. "My head," he said.

"What is wrong?" Quickshadow asked.

"My head hurts," Hot shot said.

"That is to be expected, Dr. Goh said your head is going to hurt for a while," Quickshadow said.

A nurse came into the room. She checked Hot shot's vitals. Hot shot was feeling very uncomfortable from his headache. "Do you need any painkillers?" the nurse asked.

"He does he has a headache," Quickshadow said.

"Yes it hurts," Hot shot said.

"I will go get the medicine," The nurse said. She left quickly and then came back a bit later. "Would you like to take it from a cup or syringe?" she asked.

"Syringe," Hot shot said.

The nurse filled the syringe with the right dose for Hot shot. Then stuck the syringe in Hot shot mouth and squirted it in. Hot shot swallowed the medicine. "That should help Hot shot," the nurse said.

"Thank you," Hot shot said.

"You're welcome," the nurse said.

Soon Hot shot went to sleep again. The sun soon began to rise over the clouds. It's light was spilling into the hospital windows. It was lighting up all of the rooms. Hot shot was starting to wake up to the bright light. Hot shot was soon fully awake and saw the sun was up.

"Good morning Hot shot," Quickshadow said.

"Good morning Mummy," Hot shot said. 

"How are you feeling?" Quickshadow said.

"Okay I guess," Hot shot said. 

"I just got a call from the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, I got into contact to them telling them your diagnosis and that it was new," Quickshadow said. "They help kids with brain tumors like you and their families," she said. "They said they were going to help us and now you are one of their stars," she told him.

"Cool," Hot shot said.

"They are the ones who made those videos you watched earlier about the MRI and surgery," Quickshadow said.

"Oh okay," Hot shot said. 

Hot shot was soon being checked over by the nurses. They were just checking to make sure he was doing okay. Hot shot's incision was looking good too. He seemed to be doing okay too. Hot shot was also having his breakfast. Hot shot was also watching the videos of the series that the pediatric brain tumor foundation made. Hot shot watched the video about finding out he had cancer. It explained it is okay to feel many different things when diagnosed and it wasn't his fault, and what it might be like. Hot shot watched the video about what cancer was and it explained it in a way similar to what Dr. Hetherington said. Hot shot watched the video about feeling sad, and it was alright to feel sad, and to express his emotions can help him feel better. Hot shot was wondering about many things still.
