Author's Note: To those who have read this story before, I decided to split up Chapter One into three smaller ones (Chapters One, Two and Three) so yeah. If you're new to this story though, just ignore this and keep reading

Advancing deeper into the forest's western reaches, Venus's keen eyes swept over every shadow and every glimmer of light. The solitude around her seemed to deepen, casting a weight upon her shoulders that even her training couldn't fully alleviate. Despite her best efforts to maintain composure, a flicker of concern for Max danced across her features, momentarily erasing the practiced smile she wore like armor.

Those very thoughts of Max stirred within her, their connection a fragile thread binding her to a past she struggled to reconcile. It was a dangerous game she had found herself locked into, allowing herself to feel a connection she knew to be fragile, yet unable to resist its pull.

With each step, Venus wrestled with conflicting emotions, torn between the persona she presented to the world and the woman she feared lay dormant beneath the surface. She struggled to discern between truth and facade, her own identity lost amidst a labyrinth of lies.

"Focus," she murmured to herself, a mantra meant to ground her in reality. But the tendrils of doubt refused to be silenced, weaving a tangled web of uncertainty around her.

As she pressed forward, the maze of her emotions seemed to grow denser, ensnaring her in a web of doubt and confusion. Alone in the wilderness, there were no prying eyes to deceive, no masks to maintain. For the first time in what felt like an eternity, Venus found herself stripped bare, her vulnerabilities laid bare to the unforgiving elements. She was now forced to confront the truth of her own emotions, a daunting prospect for one so accustomed to deception.

With a shake of her head, Venus quickened her pace, the cadence of her steps echoing in the silence of the forest. As she pressed onward, the forest seemed to close in around her, amplifying the tumult of her inner turmoil. With each passing moment, the line between reality and illusion blurred, leaving her adrift in a sea of uncertainty.

And yet, she pressed forward, clinging to the remnants of her facade with a desperation born of fear and years of conditioning, refusing to let it falter completely. Though the path ahead was shrouded in darkness, Venus dared to hope that somewhere amidst the shadows, she might uncover the truth she so desperately sought.

As Venus navigated through the dense forest, her path led her to a foreboding cave entrance, a gaping maw in the wall of dead trees. The desolate landscape that seemed to mirror the turmoil within her own soul, a reminder of the shadows she could never escape.

Beneath the oppressive silence, Venus's senses were heightened, attuned to the slightest disturbance in the air. It was then that she noticed them—a set of footprints, barely discernible beneath the blanket of snow, hinting at the presence of another entity.

As far as Venus was aware, there weren't anything or anyone else in this forest apart from Max, that Anomaly, and herself. Could these footprints belong to the Anomaly? If so... they appeared... smaller than expected, but she certainly was not one to underestimate, knowing judging based off on size alone was unwise especially with the unpredictably anomalies possessed.

With practiced precision, Venus retrieved her pocket knife, its weight a familiar comfort in her hand. Its handle baring a similar hue to Max's pistols. Flicking her wrist to reveal it's sharp, curved edge, the blade gleaming a vibrant orange. Its fiery edge cast an eerie glow, illuminating the darkness ahead as she braced herself for the unknown.

As the embers of the small bonfire danced in the cavern, casting faint shadows against the walls, Ryujin felt the tug of sleep coaxing him into its embrace. Yet, despite the heaviness settling over him, his instincts remained sharp, ever watchful for the slightest hint of danger.
