Hiding from the truth

You were sat in the kitchen next to Robbie. He had finished with take that but you were still in the band. You watched him eat his dinner as you prepared to ask him a question.
"You like it"
"It's alright"
"Listen Rob there's something I've been meaning to run by you.. the boys are doing a gig in France and they need me to come with them"
"And you want to go"
"Well I was thinking about it yeah"
"You can forget it.. it's not happening"
"Rob please"
"Are you deaf or something..I said no.. now if you had any loyalty you'd drop the lot of them"
You hung your head low and finished your dinner. Rob had gone out and left you at home as usual. You sat watching tv when the phone rang. You picked it up and smiled as you heard Gary's voice.
"Hey Gaz what's up"
"Just checking in.. do you know yet if you'll make that gig on Monday. We're actually thinking on getting first class ferry"
"I'm sorry Gaz I can't come"
"You can't come or Rob won't let you come"
"Gary please"
"No y/n he can't keep controlling you like this.. look the ship is meant to set sail at 7:30pm on Sunday.. I can hold it by half an hour.. if you aren't there by eight I'll understand.. we'll just have to find someone else.. goodnight y/n"
You sighed and hung up the phone.

Sunday came and all you could do was look at the clock. You were sat in the living room deciding whether to go or not. Robbie walked in and announced he was going out. You nodded and watched him leave. You rushed to pack a bag and took one last look at the clock. 7:45. You got in the car and started to drive away when you saw Robbie walking back to the house. He saw you in the car and tried to run after you but you sped away to the docks.
Gary was waiting on the pier for you. He looked at his watch 8:01. He sighed and started to board the boat when he heard tires screeching. He turned around to see you getting out of the car.
"I'm not too late am I"
"No.. come on let's get going"
You followed Gary and sat with him in the restaurant.
"I really didn't think you were coming"
"Neither did I.. but I'm here now aye"
"Yeah, yeah you are"
The other boys flooded in and gave you a welcome hug.
"I thought gaz said you couldn't come"
"I managed to move some things about.. all good now"
Gary looked at your fake smile and shook his head.
"If you'll excuse me, I'm going to bed"
"Gaz you haven't had any dinner mate sit down"
Jason took his hand and tried to pull him back to the table.
"Don't touch me Jay.. I'll see yous tomorrow"
He walked off to his room. The boys sighed and asked you what was going on.
"I don't know.. he was fine when I got here, maybe he's just tired.. we all know how much Gaz likes his bed"
They laughed and ordered food with you. The next morning you woke up and made your way down to breakfast. Howard and Gary were already there. You sat down and said good morning. Gary grunted and handed you a cup of tea.
"Here"
"Thank you"
As Howard left to get ready you turned to Gary.
"Everything okay.. you seem pissed at me.. did I do something"
"No.. look I'm sorry it's not you"
"Then what is it Gaz.. come on talk to me"
"I've been selfish.. I pushed you to come here and now I realise why you couldn't.. what will he do to you when you go home y/n"
"Gary you don't need to worry about that okay it's not your problem"
"Of course it is.. y/n you're.. amazing, I don't want to see you get hurt especially because of me"
"It's fine okay.. it's nothing"
You rolled up your sleeves to avoid getting food on them and revealed a bright purple bruise.
"That's not nothing y/n.. why are you lying to me, do you not trust me"
"Of course I trust you"
"Then why in gods name are you protecting him.. go to the police.. tell the boys we can protect you"
"No"
"Y/n why are you hiding the truth"
"BECAUSE I HAVE TO.. you don't know what it's like Gary, if you tell people they treat you differently.. if you report it you get pushed to the side and laughed at.. there's nothing I can do"
"You could leave him"
"And where would I go"
"You could stay with me.. or I could get you a hotel.. or you could stay at your mums anywhere that isn't in that house with him.. the thought of you going back makes me sick"
"Gary im not leaving him.. it's worse than It looks.. I deserve it anyway"
Gary took a hold of your hand and ran his other hand over your cheek.
"I don't want to ever hear you say that again do you understand me.. you're way too good for him y/n.. and it kills me to know that he doesn't appreciate you"
"Gary.. you're so sweet you know that don't you"
"I'm only looking out for you.. I care y/n"
"I know you do.. come here"
You pulled Gary in for a hug and let all the tension flow out of you. Gary sensed you relaxing and sighed.
"I feel how tense you are.. it must be like walking on eggshells at home"
"Let's not talk about this.. you'll only make it worse in your head"
"Okay but.. I meant what I said.. anytime you like, my doors always open. Just call I'd even come and pick you up"
"Thanks Gaz I really appreciate that"
"I'll always be here for you y/n.. always"

You finished the show and we're having celebration drinks as the boat pulled into the harbour back home. As you walked off the boat you saw Robbie standing beside the car. Gary stood close to you.
"You don't have to go with him.. come with Me"
"Gary I.. I can't I'm sorry"
"Y/n please don't go home with him.. please don't let him hurt you again"
"I'll be okay Gaz.. I promise"
You walked over to Robbie. He pulled the door open and pushed you into the car. Gary saw this and shouted.
"Oi Rob"
Robbie ignored him.
"Oi im talking to you"
Robbie turned around as Gary walked over to him.
"What the hell do you want Gaz"
"For you to leave her the hell alone.. you lay another finger on her and I swear to god"
"I don't know what your talking about"
"I've seen the bruises Rob.. you ever hurt her again and I swear you'll know what a beating feels like"
"What you gonna do aye Gaz.. you gonna punch me, go on then hit me right in the face go on"
Gary clenched his fist but looked at you and sighed.
"Yeah that's what I thought.. stay away from my fiancé alright"
Rob got in the car and started to drive home.
"How was your night out"
"Shut your mouth.. I don't want to hear another word"
You nodded and hung your head low. You walked inside and watched Rob put his coat on the hanger.
"I'm really sorry Rob"
He turned and hit you across the face.
"Oh now you're sorry.. you went behind my back.. undermined me.. and then you stitched me up to that prick"
"I didn't stitch you up.. Gary he noticed the bruises.. if you didn't beat me Rob"
He grabbed you and pushed you up against the wall.
"You don't get to blame this on me.. if you weren't such a challenge.. if you behaved I wouldn't have to keep you in check.. don't you ever blame this on me do you understand"
You nodded and breathed a sigh of relief as he walked away.
"Go and make me some lunch.. im starving"
You walked through to the kitchen and started to make Robbie a meal. Your mind floated back to what Gary had said.
