Upon Lloyd's return to the monastery he quietly slipped into his room to pack. He'd be returning to Chen's island something he hadn't done since the time Ronin stole the memories of the original ninja which was only a week before Morro possessed him.
He took a deep shakey breath as he packed a bag filled with necessities and since he'd be taking the shadow bounty, his mother's birthday gift from four years ago, to Chen's island he made sure that it was charged, fully fueled, and the spare tanks filled as well. He placed his bag in the shadow bounty and prepared a note for the team. That done he returned to his room along the way he swore he spotted his missing uncle but he blinked and he was no longer there.
The next morning Lloyd woke up before everyone else and quietly made his way down to the Shadow bounty. "And where exactly are you going Green bean?" A familiar voice asked making Lloyd yelp in surprise only to see that it was Kai.
"Um...," Lloyd said not able to come up with an excuse
"Let me guess your uncle that Wu neglected to tell you about?" Kai asked
"Yeah how?" Lloyd started to ask
"It was written all over your face. So where we headed?" Kai asked
"Chen's island. Chen stood the most to gain from my uncle's disappearance so...," Lloyd told Kai hoping it would dissuade him from coming along
"Alright then let's go you can tell me what you found out about him along the way" Kai said hoping into the shadow bounty.
"Kai...," Lloyd groaned in frustration.
"Lloyd you'll need an extra pair of eyes. Besides you helped me with my parents let me return the favor, " Kai told Lloyd
"Alright, " Lloyd caved after a few minutes.
Starting up the shadow bounty they quickly made their way to Chen's island which since Chen's death had fallen into disuse. The once grand mansion was now abandoned and falling apart from years of withstanding storms, floods, and the cruel hands of time.
They first searched the manor itself and came up empty handed. But in a secret room in the catacombs beneath the island Lloyd found a rather disturbing sight, a room full of weapons and on the other side... a very ruined picture of his missing uncle was pinned to a post.
"Yeash talk about a grudge, " Kai said observing the scene.
"Yeah Chen really hated my uncle," Lloyd agreed.
After a bit more searching they found Chen's secret study and in it was several letters to some Lord Dagnis thanking him for participating in arresting his uncle under false pretenses. And Dangis in turn thanking Chen for the manacles that imprisoned Link.
Lloyd felt his heart drop to his stomach. Is that what happened his uncle was imprisoned for something he never did. Lloyd then later found plans to destroy his uncle's only way home trapping him on Hyrule forever.
Kai gently took the plans from Lloyd's hands. "Lloyd breath," Kai told him leading Lloyd in guided breathing exercise.
Once Lloyd calmed down he was still angry at Chen. Even in death the man kept on taking. Among Chen's things he found several piles of his uncle's diaries and guides which he packed to read later, along with a list of weapons that he'd made. But upon removing the books from the study it collapsed shortly followed by the rest of the tunnels under Chen's island.
Lloyd and Kai barley managed to escape before all that was left of the once grand manor and island was only a crater.
"Sorry Lloyd I accidentally tripped something during my exploration of Chen's old cult quarters, " Kai apologized
"It's okay Kai. Besides I got what I needed," Lloyd said holding up the bag he filled with the things related to his missing uncle.
Something told him that this was going to be a long worthwhile read.
