ADRENALINE — CHAPTER 27
three hundred takeout coffees later

26th november 2023
phoebe's point of view

i sit calmly in a back corner of some coffee shop in the outskirts of new york, a hoodie covering me, trying to stay nonchalant and not catch any fan's attention.

i fiddle with the handle of my coffee cup, going over my decisions over the last few days.

i'm waiting in a coffee shop for my ex boyfriend.

i take a slug off the coffee in an attempt to calm my nerves, it's just dylan, i remind myself, it's dylan, my dylan.

the second i hear the bell ring from the door opening and see his warm face my nerves disappear, he's unshaven, chewing some gum, something about that looks attractive, i wouldn't want to admit though.

i stand up, immediately he pulls me into a bear hug "hey" he mumbles against my hair.

"hi" i mumble back against the material of his sweater.

the hug is comfortable, it reminds me of the millions of times he held me before, at airports, doorways, late at night, it's a familiar feeling.

hesitantly we pull away, he sits down opposite me "how have you been?" he asks in an almost sympathetic tone.

i sigh gently "it's been rough" i say to him honestly, i've never had to worry about sugarcoating it with dylan, i can be honest with him in a way i don't feel like i can be with jacob.

"i know it was your mom's birthday last month... i was gonna call i swear-" he starts before i interrupt him, "dyl, you really don't have to worry... you don't owe me anything".

he nods gently "i know but, i should've called" he says quietly, dylan knows how tough mum's birthday is for me, every year since i've known him he's comforted me on that day, even last year he offered a sympathetic call.

"so i hear tour was incredible" dylan says, changing the topic.

i laugh softly "yeah it was, you know i love doing it" he smiles gently "yeah, i do".

"julia and my mom went in new york, they said it was incredible" he explained, i let out a hum "they did? why didn't you tell me i would've wanted to say hi".

he laughs and puts his hands up in mock surrender.

"oh god they're gonna think i'm so rude now" i groan, he chuckles "i think you could spit in their face and they still wouldn't find you rude, they love you".
