Marinette hummed quietly, setting the picnic basket down on the wooden table. Damian was still grabbing their chairs and blankets.
It was nearly dark outside, the crickets and cicadas chirping like crazy.
Damian made his way over to Marinette, carrying two lawn chairs and two blankets. That made sense-they were going to be staying out here for awhile.
Damian leaned over to kiss his wife on the cheek. "Hello, my love. I brought the blankets over, so I believe we can set up now."
Marinette nodded, picking up the basket and moving it over to the tall grass. In some places, it brushed her knees. In others, it barely brushed her ankles.
The couple found a spot with low grass and a good viewpoint of where the fireworks were set to begin, and quickly set up their chairs and food.
Marinette quietly hummed the song from earlier, her feet tapping to the beat as she worked alongside her husband.
Before long, they were finished. Marinette was about to sit down when Damian offered his hand. "May I have this dance, Habibi?"
Marinette smiled and laughed, saying, "Of course, ma moitié."
Marinette wrapped her hands around his waist and around his shoulder as they started to sway, the cicada chirping and the waving grass their rhythm.
"I love you, Damian." Marinette whispered into Damian shoulder.
Damian exhaled contently. "I love you too, Habibi."
