"Are you READY??!"

The leader of Kim's flock yelled this at us all, Gwen and me fluttering with the other ducks as we soared high in the sky above the ocean and its hectic waves.

The waves were crashing heavily against each other and I looked down into the ripples of the water, seeing the ocean's sandy yellow bed and the fish swimming around above it.

Gwen and I glanced at each other, but suddenly Max did a high swoop up into the air before swinging around and diving into the sea.

I growled, annoyed at this. It was like he was trying to be a show-off and I copied his move, angrily as I hit high in the sky before also diving deep.

The wet water attacked my senses instantly, the cold of the deep liquid relentlessly drenching my feathers and wings.

"DAX!"

I could hear Kim's voice cry this at me, but I wasn't hurt or anything. I tried to find a big fish to grab hold of in my beak but the fish just swam passed me instantly and I soon had to arise out of the ocean to catch my breath.

I gasped, and watched in shock, Max throwing himself out of the water and back high in the sky, three small fish in his beak. My bottom beak dropped open just so shocked and I began to flap my wings again, getting back up into the sky, but it was a lot of effort.

Normally, we mallard ducks don't do such deep dives into water, and we don't soar back up into the sky that quickly either.

I felt a heated emotion deep in my chest... what I would call, jealousy.

I watched as Max flew over to Kim and smiled at her awkwardly, the fish now dead in his beak.

"Want one, Kim?"

"No thanks," She said, looking back down at me as I tried to fly to their level in the sky, "How are you finding the fishing, Dax?"

"Oh, cool, cool!" I lied, putting on a fake smile and happy expression, but truthfully, I was boiling up inside, "I do this all the time!"

"Ha! I doubt it!" Max replied back to me, swallowing down his meal quickly and grinning darkly my way, "You're having trouble just keeping up with us,"

"I. AM. NOT." I growled and Max only laughed cruelly at me.

"Hey!"

The three of us turned around in the sky, seeing Gwen fluttering with effort over to us as she looked at Max and poked him in his chest with her brown wing.

"Dax IS an amazing FISHER! You're just throwing him off with your taunts!"

I looked at Gwen surprised with what she was saying.

"Gwen..." I uttered but she continued to glare at Max and added.

"He could OUT FISH you ANY DAY!" She was panting heavily, her body squeezing in and out in angry hyperventilation, "No matter HOW HOT YOU ARE!"

"Huh!" Max finally replied, just gazing at my little sister with contempt and a face of sneering patronizing, "I'll believe that when I see it!"

"YOU WILL!"

I wanted to shut Gwen up just then, she was just building me up too high.

But as I listened to what she was saying with her loving words, I wanted to prove to my sister that she was right.

I WAS just as good as Max. Maybe not right now... but I would be. And I believed this to be definitely true.

"YEAH!" I finally said, coming between him and Gwen and glaring him in the eyes, "Let's prove this! Fish catching competition!"
