That dawn I woke up in complete shock. Someone had dunked a bucket of water over my head and I squirmed there in surprise, before sitting up and seeing Gwen standing over me, an empty bucket in her wings' grasp.
"GWEN!"
"I'm gonna go GET you that flower," She said to me, dropping the empty bucket to the muddy floor but her voice was so loud it nearly rustled Mum and Dad from their sleep.
I knew this instinctively, and grabbed Gwen, rushing her far away from the nesting place. I plopped her down outside a tree and hissed at her.
"WHY did you wake me UP?!"
"I kinda forget the directions..." Gwen admitted, slightly ashamed and I glared at her, frustrated.
"Really?!"
"Er, yup..." She said, rolling one of her webbed feet against the ground, again looking ashamed at herself.
"Okay, okay," I said back to her, slapping my face with my own wing. I grumbled out what I could remember of the directions, hoping she would remember this time.
"You have to go through the darkest cave, up the highest hill and... um," I held still for a moment, trying to remember what I had said the other day, "And to the sharpest cliff or whatever-"
"Or whatever?!" Gwen shouted back at me, completely flustered and confused, "Well, IS IT? Or isn't it?!"
"Yes!" I shouted at her in return, "Just... JUST GO!"
"Alright, alright..." Gwen said coldly sounding very bothered. She then stretched out her brown wings, almost like a jet plane about to launch, and she fluttered herself up high to the sky, looking back down at me and giving me a solid nod, "I'll get you THAT flower! I can't WAIT to be an aunt!"
"WHAT-?!" I screeched as she flew off, "STOP SAYING THAT!"
"Never!" She cooed back as she disappeared into the jungle, and I sighed exasperatedly, before turning back around to see my mum, dad and grand uncle Dan were still sleeping. I laughed nervously, leaving the nesting area now myself and before I knew it I was standing at the beach again.
Waiting... always waiting...
There was no sign of Kim, but then again, I was pretty early for our date.
I watched as the sea waves lapped against the sand, and I was so tense at that moment, thinking of the date and all the things that could go wrong.
But none of them were thoughts about my sister Gwen going on an adventure for a made-up flower.
I knew I should've felt bad about that... but I was too nervous about my date and it going perfectly, to care.
Finally, I heard someone approach and I spun around, thinking it was Kim BUT it wasn't!
It was MUM!
"Dax!" She yelled at me, her eyes full of worry and I stepped back nervously, smiling afraid at the sound of her scared voice.
"Yes, Mum!" I squeaked and she rushed to me, shaking me in fear.
"I haven't seen Gwen all morning!" I gulped when she said this, and suddenly my own heart filled with worry, "Have you?"
"No..." I said to her, shaking my head desperately and added fast, "No, NO... I'm sure she's just playing at some cliffs or whatever,"
"WHY would she be doing that?!" Mum yelled at me, so much concern in her tone.
"Dax!"
I jumped back, looking to my mother's side and seeing Kim flying down to the sandy beach to me and mum.
