I woke up the next morning in my bed snuggled against Roman. He was really warm and I figured he had moved me from the couch. I debated on whether I should stay in bed or start getting ready for school. I reached for my phone that was resting on the night stand and checked the time.
7:30 a.m
Great, we're late. I shook Roman trying to wake him up, but of course he was dead. Sometimes I wonder why this happened all the time. You would think that after years of being late and trying to revive Roman, I would be an expert. Well, that's where you would be wrong. I'm an expert at being horrible at it.
"Roman please wake up. I can't get up because you're laying on me. We can't be late for school, or my mom will have another hot flash out of anger." I said trying to push him off of me.
He wasn't budging so I knew what I needed to do. I had to call for backup.
"MOMMMMMMMMMMMM HELP ME!!!!!!!", I shouted from my bed.
After waiting a while my mother graced us with her presence. However she had a nasty glare to contribute to her attendance.
"Can you help me wake up Roman, he's not budging.", I asked.
"...."
Usually in the mornings my mom isn't much of a talker unless she's been awake for about an hour. If she had just woken up, she's basically mute. And you can't forget the bad attitude that comes with her.
My mom moved from her position by the doorway and made her way to the bathroom. She was in there for a while but returned with a bowl. She made her way over to the bed and hovered over Roman. She had an evil glint in her eye and devilish smirk plastered to her face. For a second I thought I was in the presence of Satan.
In a split second my mom went from looking scary to me and Roman being soaking wet. I guess the best way she thought to wake him up was to pour water on the BOTH of us. I guess she "forgot" that I was already awake.
Roman shot out of bed and looked around in a panic. His eyes finally fell onto my mom and the glare he wore was fierce.
"Good morning Audrey.", Roman said through gritted teeth.
One thing that I love about Roman is he usually never gets mad at my mom or me. Well, if he does he doesn't yell at us. I always admired how much he tried to be patient with me, but honestly my mom deserved a good yelling.
My mom smiled at Roman and simply walked out of my room to return to hers. I was beginning to feel bad because I didn't know she would wake him up in that way. Honestly, I should've realized because she is the devil reincarnated.
"Sorry about that. I should've guessed she would've done something stupid.", I said to Roman.
"It's okay...... what time is it?", he replied.
I grabbed my phone and looked at the time. "7:38 a.m."
"Shit! We're late!", he said while jumping out of the bed.
I started to climb out of bed, but I felt a sharp pain in my leg. I forgot that I had just took a beating the day before. No wonder every time I move, it feels like someone is crushing me.
"Oli, you're staying home today. You need to rest and let your injuries heal.", Roman said from the bathroom.
"No! I want to come to school with you. I'm fine, just a little sore. You might just have to stick with me all day if you don't mind.", I said.
"You know I don't mind, but I seriously think it would be best if you sat this one out today."
"No I'm coming. I don't want to get behind on work."
He sighed and grumbled an okay. I got out of bed and hobbled my way to the bathroom. Roman and I got ready for school doing our usual routine, but only much quicker. We didn't have time to eat breakfast so we made our way to his car.
My mom was sitting in the living room eating a bowl of cereal when we passed by. She looked at me strangely and with wide eyes blocked me from leaving the house.
"What the hell happened to you? You look terrible.", she said while examining my face and body.
"You are not going to school. I'm taking you to the hospital to get looked at, and on the way there you're going to tell me exactly what had happened.", she said angrily.
I figured she probably knew someone beat me up since it used to happen before. I liked to hide these things from my mom just as much as Roman because she can be just as bad as him.
"Mom, I promise I'm fine. I really need to go to school today because I have a test. I'll tell you what had happened when I get home because we are running really late right now. Okay?", I said to her pleadingly.
"Alright, but you come right home. If something else happens you call me. I will make sure whoever touches you pays dearly.", she said with her devilish grin.
I shuttered to myself. I definitely think she's worse than Roman. I hugged her goodbye and made my way to the car. The drive to school was quite with some music playing. I honestly really didn't want to go to school, and would much rather stay in bed. I just came to school because I was afraid of what Roman might do. He promised he wouldn't do anything, and he usually doesn't break his promises, but I was still scared something would happen. I looked over at him while he pulled in the parking lot and prayed that today would go smoothly.
Roman got out of the car and helped me get out as well. We walked (well I hobbled) to the building and went to our different first periods. I told him goodbye and went to my class. I was secretly hoping that Ryan wouldn't show today. Of course I'm never lucky because he was sitting in his usual seat.
He didn't look at me when I made my way to my desk. That was a good sign because it meant he wouldn't bother me today.
I took my seat as the teacher began their lesson plan. I zoned out and stared out the window looking at the snow that had fallen the day prior. I really hope nothing happens, but I guess I'll just have to wait for fourth period to see. Gym.
