Roman's POV
I am freaking the fuck out.
I'm trying not to scare Oli, but his wound is bad. Like he might need surgery bad.
I blame myself. I should've been able to protect him, but I couldn't even do that properly. No, I shouldn't have dragged him into this mess in the first place. He should be at home right now, curled up under the covers in bed, and watching a Christmas movie.
What if something happens?
What if he dies?
If he dies, I'll die.
Oli anchors me, so without him, I'll lose myself in the currents. I don't know what I would do if something actually happened to him. He's my whole world. He's my best friend, he's my love, he's my life. Without him I would cease to exist.
I would lose my mind.
I would kill them all.
First, I would start by finding their leader. I would make her death extraordinarily slow and painful. I would start by ripping her-
"Roman, are you okay?", Oli said while pulling me from my thoughts.
I looked over at him. Despite the pain he was trying to mask, he was smiling at me. His adorable smile that I could never get tired of. The one that they're trying to take away from me.
"You know the person who is injured shouldn't be asking others that.", I said trying to lighten my mood. Talking with Oli always makes me feel lighter.
He laughed. "I know I might be hurt, but that doesn't mean that you can't be hurt too."
"I know, I know. I'm just...... worried. I need to find a place to stop soon to get supplies to treat your wound.", I said.
"You worry too much. I'll be fine. We're not that far away from the safe house anyways. I should be able to make it there because it's only about three hours away.", he said.
It's four. And no, I don't think you can.
"I'm still going to stop anyways when I find a place that's open. Your wound will get infected if it stays like that for much longer."
"Okay..... do you care if I close my eyes. I'm a little tired.", he said.
I looked over at him again, and could see how exhausted he looked. I just wanted to hold him and let him sleep for however long he needed, but I was afraid. I was afraid if he closed his eyes, he wouldn't open them again.
"Alright. Don't sleep very long though.", I said concerned.
"Okay.", he replied.
I reached over and grabbed his hand. I wrapped my hand around his smaller one as he closed his eyes to sleep. I made sure to keep my fingers on his wrist to check his pulse. If something happens and his heart stops beating, I'll know right away.
As we continued down the road and Oli slept, I was frantically searching for a store. You would think that I would be able to find at least one pharmacy, but I couldn't. We were practically in the middle of no where, and the very few stores we passed were closed. There was nothing else for miles.
The situation was getting dire. I could see beads of sweat forming on his forehead and his breathing became rough. The wound was probably already infected because he seemed to be forming a fever. I was going to have to figure something out with what I had.
I quickly pulled the car over to the side of the road and put it in park. The sudden stopping of the car woke Oli up.
"What are you doing? Did you find a store?", he asked tiredly.
"No, I'm going to look in the trunk and see what I got back there. You're getting worse, so I need to do something now.", I said.
"Roman, I'm okay. It's going to be okay.", he said with a small smile, but I could tell in his eyes that he didn't believe himself. He was just saying that for me.
"It's not fine. It will never be okay for you to be hurt or in pain.", I said while opening the car door.
"I'll be right back.", I said while getting out of the car and holding back my emotions.
I headed to the back of the car and opened the trunk. It was full of stuff. I didn't even know what all was in there, but I was going to search every last corner.
I shuffled through all of my weapons that were back there and eventually settled on a small knife. I looked for more stuff and found a shirt. I considered using it as a gauze, but it was too dirty. I needed something dry and sterile.
Well as sterile as it could be.
Luckily, I found an old bag underneath the weapons that had bandages and tape in it. It was one of my old bags that I used when I was younger. In the past whenever I would train, I would have to wrap my fists in bandages because of the damage they took.
I pulled the bandages and tape out, and continued to look for more stuff. After searching for a bit longer, I couldn't find anything else that was useful. The only thing left in the trunk were weapons, bullets, and bullet holes. Very useful.
I moved towards the side of the car and opened the door to the backseat. There was basically nothing back there, but I still searched everywhere. I looked under the seats in hope of finding something, and that's where I saw it. A bottle of vodka.
It's my lucky day.
I grabbed the bottle and quickly made my way towards the passenger seat of the car. I opened the door and looked in.
Oli wasn't in good shape. He was sweating profusely and his body was shaking. He skin was extremely pale and his eyebrows were furrowed in pain.
"Hey, I'm here. I was able to find some things that could work, but it's not ideal.", I said.
"What do you mean by not ideal?", he asked.
I knew I needed to be upfront with him and tell him everything. I could hide the urgency of the situation before when it wasn't as bad, but it wouldn't do him any good now. He was about to go through hell, so he deserved to know what was going on.
"Well first, I don't know how deep the wound goes and if there is any internal damage. Two, I have vodka which could help with infection, but it's not guaranteed. And three, I only have tape to hold close the wound.", I said.
"But it should be able to work till we get to the safe house. There we have tons of supplies that can help. Plus dad is really good at treating wounds.", I continued.
"That's good.", he said.
"Yeah...... but there's still one problem."
"What is it?", he asked worriedly.
"It's going to hurt. Like really bad.", I told him.
"It's okay, I'm okay, it'll all be fine.", he said more to himself than me.
I grabbed my knife and went to the back seat. I grabbed the seatbelt on one of the chairs and cut a section off. I returned back to Oli's side and handed it to him.
"What is this for?", he asked.
"You're going to want to bite down on this.", I said.
"Why?"
"Because it will help to distract you from the pain and...."
"And?", he asked.
"It helps to prevent you from biting through your tongue or breaking your teeth.", I said.
His face went pale as he carefully took the seatbelt from my hands and placed it into his mouth.
"Are you ready?", I asked.
He nodded his head which I took as a cue to get started.
