Screams

Gun fire and screams filled the air as people ran in different directions looking for cover. In the distance, I could see what looked to be ten men, dressed in all black, holding guns, and shooting bullets towards the crowd of people. These men looked exactly like the other ones that came after Roman before.

I guess it doesn't matter to them who gets hurt, as long as they reach their target. It's disgusting how they mindlessly shoot at innocent bystanders. Some of them being children.

"Oli, I changed my mind. You can't stay here. I need to find cover for you.", Roman said while pulling the knife out of my hand and dragging me with him as he broke out into a sprint.

"Wait, why?", I asked. I didn't want to leave Roman alone. There were too many of them this time. I didn't know if he could take all of them.

"I didn't think there would be this many of them.", he said.

"You don't know how to defend yourself well enough to go against these men. And from the looks of it, these are some of the best from the organization.", he said while running.

"I can help!", I said slightly out of breath.

Roman pulled me behind the side of a building and looked at me.

"Oli, you are already out breath from running, and I don't know if you can tell or not, but you're shaking.", he said.

I looked down at my hands and they were trembling. The adrenaline was distracting me from the terror my body was feeling.

"I need to you to stay here. Okay?", he said.

"Look I know I'm not that useful and I'm afraid, but there must be something I can do to help.", I said.

"No, you're going to stay here.", he commanded.

"But-"

"I need you to be safe. If something happens to you I-I don't know what I'll do.", he said with his voice breaking.

Silence fell between us as I stared at his face. I could see the emotion coursing through his eyes. I knew if I tried to help, he wouldn't be able to focus fully on fighting. I would be a distraction. A distraction that could kill the both of us.

"Alright, I'll stay here.", I said.

"I love you.", he said while leaning down and pecking my lips.

"Please stay safe. I don't what I'll do if something happens to you either.", I replied.

"You know me. Haven't been killed yet, and don't plan on it in the future.", he said while smiling.

I didn't laugh at his joke and said seriously, "I love you."

Roman bent down and kissed me again this time a little longer. After he pulled away, the heat from his lips lingered on mine. I watched as he sprinted towards the gunfire and eventually disappeared from my sight.

I patiently waited for him to come back, but as the minutes ticked by, I began to grow restless. Unpleasant thoughts were coursing through my mind. 'Why is he taking so long?', 'What if something bad happened to him?', 'What if he needs my help, but I'm not there for him.'

It felt like hours had went by, but I knew it hadn't been that long. I couldn't stand the uneasy silence anymore.

"To hell with this.", I said.

I started running in the opposite direction he went and towards the little bed and breakfast. Unfortunately, the inn we were staying at was in the outskirts of the town, which was about a mile away from where I was at.
