One hour before Kion talked to Mufasa...

It is dry season, hardly any trees has got leaves left. Grasses turned yellow and waterways begin to fade. Every passing day, animals on the Pridelands are getting more and more aggressive and frustrated. Some animals even resolve to take extreme measures - they rob food and dominate water holes. As a result, the Lion Guards' job has become harder and more time-consuming. Kion has to escort small and defenseless hyrax safely to the water hole every day, in order to let them drink without getting scared by bigger animals. Beshte spends each morning pushing luckless hippos out from sticky mud. Ono constantly patrols the land and keeps an eye on all the possible emergencies.

In the early morning, Bunga saved a female giraffe. The giraffe, who had not had anything to eat for a day, ventured to retrieve a few dangling leaves on a tall tree. She was then stuck by the branches and could not move for an hour. It was unfortunate but understandable. Dry season has always been hard for everyone.

After the giraffe was freed, Ono rushed in and yelled: Hapana! Everyone, come quickly! It's an emergency! The elephants are under attack!

Kion (shocked): What? Emergency again? This is the fifth time today and it's only early morning!

Fuli (shrugs): Well, it's the dry season. There're dangers everywhere. Yesterday we received more than ten emergencies. Guess today's just one of these days.

Kion (gathers all the Guards): Alright, come on, everyone, lets go! Till the Pridelands end...

Other Guards: ...Lion Guard defend!

The Lion Guards sprinted to the elephant herds in a great hurry. When they crossed a patch of dried up grasses, they did not pay any heed to whoever was resting inside. There was a sleeping cobra who coiled up cozily in the grasses. His name is Ushari. He was jolted awake by loud vibrations and raised up his head to see what was happening, only to be nearly kicked by Kion. Before he had time to shout, Fuli stamped onto his tail, making him shriek in pain. That was not the worst. Bunga was the last one in line and he punched the cobra onto ground without mercy. When Ushari regained consciousness, he was surrounded by dirty dust kicked up by Lion Guard. He coughed and nursed his wounds bitterly.

Ushari (hisses): It'sss the Lion Guard again! Whenever I meet them, I am the one to get punched and kicked. Ever since the dry season, I have been stamped upon by them for a dozen times! Thisss isss driving me crazy! Look at all these bruises they have given me!

He shifts his long body painfully. His back was indeed covered by a dozen small scratches and bruises. The freshest two were done by Fuli and Bunga.

Ushari: I have no idea why the other Pridelanders are so fond of them! Hisss, for me, they are just a bunch of nuisancesss!

His sleep was all but ruined. Ushari had no choice but to think for a solution: Mmmm, seems like I need to find a place where those nuisances won't be able to bother me. Where should I go? Those Lion Guards are everywhere in the Pridelands. Should I move to somewhere in the Outlands? No, I can't! Tons of hungry and crazy hyenas are out there. Hmmm, maybe...the borderline between the Pridelands and the Outlands?

Meanwhile, at the border of the Pridelands and the Outlands...

Janja and his hyena pals were chasing and cornering up a herd of elephants. Janja ran at the front, with Chungu and Cheezi tailing him closely.

Janja: Hahaha! Get moving boys! If we're lucky we can get ourselves a mouthful of fresh elephant meat today! The meat of their little ones are VERY delicious at this time of the year!

Chungu: Meat! Sounds yum yum, Janja!

Janja: It's all thanks to my brilliant plan. Them elephants are significantly weakened by the dry season. Them Lion Guards are busy with all kinds of trivia matters and have no time to bother us. Follow my lead, if we work hard...
