I stirred, but I barely could move at all. My movements were obstructed, and the discovery was alarming.
My eyes flew open to see that there were two small arms wrapped around my waist and I was being hugged from behind. I glanced over my shoulder at Reilly, just making sure it was indeed her while my heart collided against my ribs.
"You okay?" She mumbled against my back. I nodded and relaxed into her again. Then I reached beneath the duvet to find her hand that was wrapped loosely around my waist, covering it with mine. She curled her fingers into mine and tightened her hold on me. "Any nightmares?"
I shook my head and with a slight smile, I said. "I think you're the Sandman."
She smiled, humming in response. "I'm glad you got some sleep."
"Me too," I told her truthfully. "What time is it?"
"Not sure, but it's still pretty early."
"Good," I determined, closing my eyes again. "I don't want to get out of bed yet."
"And by that you mean you don't want me to let you go yet," she corrected. Her breath tickled my neck as she spoke and I cringed, stiffly hooking up my shoulders. My grip on her hand tightened involuntarily, but she didn't mind. Instead, she lifted our joint hands to place the tiniest kiss against the back of it. "Is this okay?" She asked before her lips even touched my skin.
I bit my lip, and I was very grateful she couldn't see my face to see the way my cheeks suddenly brightened. But, I knew she could feel the rapid hammering of my heart and perhaps just chose to ignore it.
At my nod, she finally touched her lips to my skin. My initial reaction was a shiver that seemed to shake my entire body. But being held in her arms, it didn't last for long before it was soothed by the way she secured her hold on me. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. How did you sleep?"
"Good." I felt her finger graze the side of my neck as she brushed my hair away. She settled back into spot before she spoke again. "By the way, your hair tie got lost somewhere so..."
"That always happens," I said, frowning. I reached for the golden locs and guided it all over one shoulder to lay on so it wouldn't be in her way. "Is that better?"
"Wait, for real? You lose your hair ties while you sleep?"
"Yeah?"
"Oh, I had just said that just because. I actually took it out this time. Sorry, so, maybe you can just give me your hair back since I want to play with it?"
I resisted the urge to laugh but I flung it back over my shoulder nonetheless. "Knock yourself out."
"Yay!" She squealed and I felt her fingers softly stroking my hair then. "Your hair is very pretty," she complimented.
I tried to fight the blush that was slowly reddening my cheeks but failed. I flipped to face her then, burying my face in her chest, catching her off guard. Her heart had suddenly started beating a bit faster and her movements in my hair momentarily stopped. But after a minute, she recovered from her shock and her hand held me closer to her. I closed my eyes, breathed her in and enjoyed her fingers going through my hair.
Silence fell over us for a while but we remained the same until I eventually fell asleep again. I only knew I went back to sleep when I was being woken by the need to pee. Reilly was no longer in bed with me but I had very little time to worry or ponder about her absence as I rushed to the bathroom. I peed, washed my hands and face, grabbed another spare toothbrush to brush my teeth then exited the bathroom.
I stumbled into Reilly when I exited. She was carefully positioning a breakfast tray on the ottoman. She smiled when she saw me and I couldn't help but do the same. "Good morning, beautiful," I said making her smile widen and her brow cocked in intrigue.
