Drew's POV
The next morning, I was staring at a sleeping Reilly in my bed. She looked so peaceful as she slept. So fucking peaceful like some sort of an angel or something. She was an angel. My beautiful angel.
I blushed involuntarily at the memories of our evening that flooded back to me. I could still see her pleasure-filled expression and the sensual ways in which her body moved as I massaged her. I didn't know whether I was doing it properly but I went with fate and it turned out amazing.
I felt so proud of myself and I know we said we'd wait until marriage for sex, but I felt like Reilly needed that little foreplay yesterday evening. Even if she ended up finishing it herself.
I still feel proud.
"Are you...are you fantasising?" My eyes snapped to hers, my whole body turning red from being caught staring at her nakedness. "I'm right here you know."
I ran my hand through my messy hair as I snuggled closer to her. She watched me approach reaching for the sheet that was between us. I slapped her hand away making her laugh. But it quickly came back, to pull me towards her and we collided into a pile. I groaned but she only laughed harder. So much for being an angel. "I think I like you better when you're asleep," I told her, feigning annoyance.
She reached up and tucked my hair, away from my face but her thumb lingered on my cheek. I leaned in until my face was resting against hers. "Good morning, Sunshine."
Her hands locked around my back and I felt them slide all the way down, pushing away the sheet until she was groping me. "Good morning, Cuddle Bug." My blush deepened, eliciting a smile from her. "Awww you're blushing. How cute."
"I'm not cute," I corrected. After all these weeks of her calling me beautiful, all these months she expected me to settle for cute? Absolutely not. "I'm beautiful. Get it right."
Her mouth curved into an 'O'. "I stand corrected then. My apologies." She rolled us over in one swift movement and settled between my legs. "I love that confidence very much."
"Of course, you would." I reached up to pull her into a deep kiss but before our lips met, her phone rang on the night table.
She groaned in annoyance and hesitantly reached for it, her face still close. "Assistant DA, Reilly Reid...I'm on my way." She hung up and sighed, leaning in to touch her lips against mine. "You wanna go get a DNA test done?"
"Let's do it."
Against our will, we got out of bed. While we were getting ourselves ready, I ordered roses for Reilly just because. They arrived just as we got down to the lobby and I was able to hand them over to her myself. The look on her face was priceless and I could sense her appreciation. It was a win for me because she smiled. And that sadness in her eyes, after she came home yesterday evening, was replaced by the usual happiness that would be there. It wasn't often that she was down and not very many things get her down but this case was a rough one and dealing with me in and of itself was very rough. I couldn't help but worry that it was all getting too much. That the weight was getting too much for her to carry.
I needed this trial over like yesterday. We both needed it.
The day was a busy one. Despite leaving the house together, Reilly and I barely saw each other. She was focused on getting DNA samples from David because I couldn't, while I got samples from Paige. We met up for lunch only after the samples were submitted. I took her to that pasta place she loved and treated her to whatever she wanted, deciding to just make it a "giving back to Reilly" day.
The remainder of my day was focused on paperwork. There was a lot to do and not enough time to do it. Time slipped by pretty quickly. I went home and so did Reilly. It was my idea, my desire to give her a break from me. But as the evening went on, I'd come to realise how much she wanted the opposite. Just an hour after we went home, she called me and we ended up being on the phone for more than six hours. Most of the time, we sat and worked in comfortable silence.
