2 years later - Sept 2022

Can you tell me why Jennifer Sullivan Taylor still expects me at her house on weekends? I mean, I get it. I'm her one single living child and this has been something both of us were keen on in the past. However, now that I'm in a very serious relationship and live with my girlfriend, I expected her to know that some things are going to change. I can't be with her every weekend.

It's not gonna happen.

It was the second weekend of September, a week after my 30th birthday, and I was on my way to my parent's house because Mom begged me for two days straight to come. It was going to be my first and last visit for this month, I swear on my Grandmother's grave! Reilly had met with my mom earlier today, so, it made the most sense for her to linger with them until I got there. The house was well-lit when I pulled into the driveway. I could see no one inside through the windows, still, I knew everyone was home. Or, at least, they should be.

With that knowledge in mind, I shut the car off, grabbed my overnight bag and stepped out onto the cobblestone pavement. The car keys jingled in my hand, my hair dancing with my movements as I bounced up the steps. I found the keys to unlock the front door and pushed inside.

"Mom?"

Habit had me already kicking my shoes off, but as soon as I began to do that, I spotted a small note pasted above the shoe rack telling me to grab a pair of specific sandals to trade my shoes for. Reilly's handwriting was unmistakable and the sight of it alone made me smile. Where was she anyway? I missed her.

I grabbed the note and the sandals, pivoted away from the shoe rack and headed out of the foyer. Before I turned the corner to go to the living room, there was another note on the wall.

I know you're tired and a rejuvenating shower is all you now want
So, enjoy it, my love, then come to the kitchen when you're done
:*

I smiled, grabbed the note and bounced up the stairs to my bedroom. My shower wasn't very long but it was well appreciated.

There was a tiny red dress laid out for me with a note that I should get dressed in this. After silently questioning it and studying the garment, which was beautiful by the way, I got dressed in it, dragged the sandals on and headed back downstairs. I felt overdressed but I pushed the feeling aside for the time being, focusing on the task at hand.

The kitchen was empty, but there was another note on the countertop, waiting for me. This time, I was a bit more hesitant to take it. Where the fuck was everyone and what's with the bunch of notes? What if...what if someone killed them and then they were trying to lead me away to kill me too?

It was bad enough that Reilly stopped answering my messages the moment I had told her I was pulling in. What if all along that wasn't Reilly? What if, that was some serial killer pretending to be her to lure me in? It was possible, right?

My mind kept racing, every possible thought, good and bad, flashing across my mind. With a shaking hand, I picked up the note.

I know by now you must be sceptical but please, baby, calm down. Your parents are fine and out having dinner. I'm fine too and, well, waiting to have mine ;)
Come to the backyard.

I pulled my phone out and sent her another message.

I sighed, took the note and headed out the back door. It was after dark but the place was brightened by the glow of the upcoming full moon. It appeared very large on the horizon in a soft yellow shade, providing a natural yellow glow over the world. Something I appreciated as I stepped out onto the patio. Another note was on the outdoor dining table and I grabbed it.
