It was 4 in the morning, the sky was still a tinge dark blue, an icey cold chill ran through the small town where stores were still closed, only a few people were on the streets that early at dawn.

Tonya Katts walked briskly down the side walk, guided by illuminated streetlamps in her still-hungover state, behind her she dragged her 8 yer old daughter Posey by the arm, the little girl struggled to catch up with her mother whose speed had her struggling, she clutched her raggedy little teddy bear Temmy under her arm as tightly as she could, wearing a little light coat that still made her shiver, goosebumps scattered hr pale skinny legs and her nose as already turning red, all she wore underneath her coat was a small nightgown because she was following her mother out the door.

Tonya's dark hair was disheveled bedhead, her eyes were wrinkled and shaded. Posey didn't know where her mother was going, she was just woken up by loud noises in their quite depressing house, what she also didn't know was her mother was about to do something unspeakable that Posey would question for the rest of her life.

"Mummy I'm cold." She murmured, Tonya heard, but ignored her kept hastily walking. Looking up at the storefronts, one caught her attention, with teddy bears staring out from the glass facade, she tugged Tonya's arm to stop her, almost getting physically dragged in the process, Tonya halted and took in a deep breath, and looked down at Posey, annoyance on her face.

She looked up towards the storefront then back down at Posey. "It's closed you noid." Tonya scoffed.

"I wanna see." She let go of her mother's useless grip and ran up towards the large window, the stuffed bears on the other side that sat on the shelves differed so much from her Temmy, he was like a towel with a little bit of cotton in his body.

Posey held up her old raggedy teddy bear to face all the fresh new well stuffed and sewed bears with shiny marble eyes, plaid and satin bows and smiles stitched onto their muzzles. 'Looky ere Temmy, more teddies!" She said, his round head rolled back on his loose neck. "I want mummy to buy me another one so you can be friends." Posey pointed at a beige colored bear with a white bow sewn onto its chest, beige was her favorite color.

"Mum I want to... mum?" Posey turned around to see, Tonya was gone, had she been distracted for that long? She looked up and down the street, with the streetlamps she could see a bit, so she proceed up the sidewalk hopeful that her mother had just expected her to come along. As she looked around she saw a familiar building, a store her mother brought her into a couple times, the liquor store, with it's tall green bottles filled with red and gold alcohols, her mother had a whole cabinet full.

Posey's mother had a terrible problem with alcohol, most times he would get drunk after Posey went to bed, but there were times were she did encounter Tonya hungover. During a thunderstorm she woke up in the middle of the night, her door had been left ajar as she was forbidden from locking the door. Tonya sprawled against the chair with her head leaning all the way back, the half empty bottle was still on the table, but the glass she was drinking from was on the floor, unbroken but the red sleeping juice had been spilled and was pooling onto the kitchen floor. Posey once even tried some when her mother wasn't paying attention, it tasted a bit sour and weirdly off. One night her mother came home extremely fussy and took an early swig, it terrified Posey so much she locked her door, it did not end well and she kept the door slightly open ever since.

Posey shivered as she walked own the sidewalk, thinking maybe Tonya would realize her daughter hadn't followed her and would turn around and come back, she sat on a nearby bench, hugging Temmy close. A man out for an early stroll noticed the raven-haired child, with her bare legs crossed and swinging back and forth. He stopped walking and knelt down to her, placing hand on her shoulder. Posey jerked in surprise.

"You lost?" He asked, Posey's lip quivered from both the cold, and because she was scared at this point. "M-ma, mama." She stuttered. All she wanted was her mommy, even if she treated her like shit, she wanted to go home. Her eyes flooded with tears that seeped out and ran down her red and cold cheeks.

Had that man not stopped when he saw Posey all by herself things would have definitely ended out for the worse.

The man took Posey to the nearest police station, when they confronted her mother it was confirmed that Tonya was drunk and also didn't know what she was doing, Posey just so happened to follow her out the door. When the police asked her if she wanted Posey back, she responded "Do whatever you have to do with her, she's not my problem anymore." Posey heard that, it broke her, and it had put her in a bad mood since that day.

that was the last time she saw Tonya, after going home and packing the few things she owned and being put into foster care. It had just been her and Tonya alone for years.
