Wednesday morning - Washington D.C.
The new day started with Robbie giving me a check-up.
At this point, my bed was made and I was fully ready for work. I was dressed in a dark blue button-up with the sleeves rolled up, and white trousers. My hair was too small to put on a full ponytail, but I did put half of it up to keep the excess hair out of my face. My bangs were enough.
Even if I didn't feel like putting that much work on my appearance after everything that has happened, I was taught that I had to. Looks are a shield, if you let yourself look bad, everyone will know you're down, I can't let that happen.
If I did let that happen, I wouldn't leave my bed. I'd stay there the whole day, overthinking and depressed. Problems don't go away like that, though.
"Ok, everything seems to be fine.", Robbie says, bringing me out of my thoughts, "Your eyebrow will need a few days to heal but nothing serious!"
His bright smile makes me smile too. I really don't know him, but he's clearly trying to cheer me up.
"Thanks, Robbie. Are we good to go then?", I ask.
"Yep! Let's go!"
On the way down, Robbie started talking about his love for pancakes, avoiding the topic of work. With something small like this, he made me feel normal again. Even if it only lasted for a couple minutes.
Once we entered the bullpen I had to once again ignore some stares. Don't these people have to work?
"How are you annoyed before the day starts?", Leo asked me once we approached, an amused smile on his face.
This made Jane, Camila and Robbie look at me too.
"Maybe if the agents here", I raised my voice a bit to make sure they heard the next part, "actually worked instead of staring I wouldn't be."
Leo let out a small laugh and I looked back, everyone was working already.
"We're going out today.", Leo started, changing both his tone and facial expression, "Jane and Robbie, you guys stay here."
"Wait, you're taking the civilian instead of a trained agent?", Camila asked in surprise
"The civilian has a name.", I simply answered, crossing my arms on my chest.
"The civilian is also very smart. Smart enough for Katherine to compliment her, so she is coming.", His tone left no room for arguing even though she clearly wanted to. I also decided to ignore the way he adressed me.
I don't know what's her problem.
"Jane and Robbie, be ready and give backup from here.", Was the last thing he said before starting to walk away, followed by Camila.
When I looked at Jane and Robbie, both were giving me a worried look (Robbie's being more dramatic), but I eased them with a smile and a wave before walking away too.
Once outside, Leo got on the drivers seat and Camila on the passanger leaving me to the backseat, behind Leo.
Being on the backseat again was bringing me back to yesterday's events but before I could picture anything too bad, I felt something land on my lap.
Looking down it was an earpiece. I grabbed it and looked up seeing the woman still eyeing me with concern.
This was the first time I could actually see an emotion on her face and properly read it. I'm usually pretty good with that so it never took so long.
I gave her a quick nod that she copied and put my earpiece on. I could hear Jane give Leo instructions on where to go as he started the car.
Once Leo had the details and had started driving, he looked at me through the mirror.
