"The first day of a new job fucking sucks."
Riley said this to me as she got ready for her first day at her new job.
She was getting ready in our bedroom, and she was nervous. I wasn't starting until two days after her, and I was nervous as well.
"I know it does," I said, getting up from our bed and walking over to her, "But you'll get through it. You're going to be amazing at your new job."
As I adjusted Riley's collar for her, she said, "Ah, you have so much faith in me. I hope I'll at least be okay at it."
"You're going to be way more than okay. There's a reason why they chose you for this."
Riley smiled at me, "You're right. I'm just nervous. Thank you, Jenny."
Riley and I had been in our house in Colorado now for a little over a week, and we were adjusting. Adjusting to the new area, which was picturesque, the new home, and living with each other- even though that was the easy part. It felt natural to be living with Riley, as we had spent so much time with each other back in Pennsylvania.
We didn't have a lot of things to move to our new home, basically just ourselves, clothing, some belongings, and Sunshine, of course, who did surprisingly well on the plane- even though I felt terrible having to keep her in a carrier for that long.
The house was pretty empty at this point, as we were in the process of furnishing it. Riley was pretty much letting me take the reigns on that, as she said she didn't really care how I decorated the house. Since it was a rental, and we didn't know how long we would be there, I wasn't going to go crazy with decor. Just enough to make it look nice.
I already missed everyone from back home, and I knew that Riley did as well. I could tell that she especially missed Brooklyn. I really hoped that my coworkers at the Colorado location were going to be as great as the ones back in Pennsylvania.
So many things were currently up in the air. But at least Riley and I had each other to get through it.
During Riley's first day of work, she was texting me as much as she possibly could, and she said she would call me during our lunch. Our schedules were going to be a lot like back home, she was going to be working from home two days a week after training and three days in the office, and I was going to be three days at home, two days in the office after training.
I was eating lunch in the kitchen when she called me.
She started telling me about the Colorado office and said that it was bigger than the Pennsylvania one.
"It's so crazy having my own office," she said, "It's starting to hit me that I'm going to be the boss of a lot of people. I'm still in disbelief that they chose me to do that."
I chuckled, "Because they know you can handle it and you'll be great at it."
"I sure hope so. The fucking VP of sales is the person training me. It's wild. He's nice, though."
"Good," I said back, "And I'll be joining you there in just two days."
"I was able to get a look at the recruiting office. It was mostly women, a lot who looked our age. I'm sure you'll make friends."
"Now it's my turn to say I sure hope so."
"I think we both need a little pick me up tonight from our nerves. How about we go out to dinner, someplace nice?"
"You're sure you'll be up for doing that after your first day?" I asked Riley.
"Positive. Look up places and choose one, any place."
