Pete slid into the backseat of the car after Jefferson opened the door. Ryan slid in after him. Adjusting his bright pink tie.
"Its eight fifteen. We are supposed to be there at eight thirty." Ryan told him.
"I know what time we have to be there." Pete grumbled.
"Then you wouldn't have made us late." Ryan snapped.
"Whoa! What is your problem?"
"I don't have a problem"
Ryan snatched his phone up and unlocked it. He scrowled through his email's frowning. Who even emails anymore? Why couldn't people just text or call?
"Are you and Brendon having problems again?"
"How about staying out of my personal business?" Ryan snapped again.
He couldn't help it. He was pissed. He got like this everytime he and Brendon argued. Brendon wanted him to just ditch Pete and never talk to him again. But he couldn't do that. Pete was his best friend. The closest thing he had to family. He loved Pete the same way Brendon loved Patrick.
He understood why his friend left. He spent almost a year of his life hoping for something that was never going to happen. For months Pete laid by Patrick's side. Holding him. Kissing him. Talking to him. Loving him. A one sided relationship wasn't easy. Pete didn't deserve to hated for moving on.
He did however deserved to be hated for who he moved on to. Why her? That was why Ryan has been pissed for almost a year now. That was why Ryan was snappy everyday.
He tried to remain loyal to his best friend. He tried to support his decisions. But he could only take so much before he couldn't do it anymore.
His fiance, if that were still his fiance, was one of the most important people in his life. He couldn't decide if his loyalty was stronger to Brendon or Pete. And it was pissing him off.
Pete eyes Ryan suspiciously.
"I was just making sure you're okay, Ry."
Great. Now Ryan felt like shit for being mean.
"I'm fine, Pete. It's just-"
He was cut off by the sound of the phone ringing. Pete motioned for Ryan to answer it.
"You've reached Wentz's mobile line."
"Hello, this is Courtney from Saint John's Hospital. I need to speak directly to Peter Wentz."
"What is it concerning?"
"His husband is asking for him."
Ryan almost dropped the phone. "H-His what?"
"His husband is asking for him."
"That's impossible. His- um he isn't even really alive-"
"Oh I can assure you sure he is very alive."
"Are you sure you have the right patient?"
"A Mr. Patrick Wentz. He's been demanding we call Mr. Wentz since he woke up." Her voice lowered. "And please get here soon. His friend is throwing chairs and threatening to slap the doctor."
Ryan laughed. That was his Brendon.
"We'll be there as soon as possible."
"Thank you."
Ryan hung up the phone. Pete watched him expectantly. Waiting for him to explain.
Ryan glanced down at his lap. This was good news right? Patrick was alive and well. It shouldn't be hard to say.
"Ryan? Was it business related?"
"I- um."
"Who was it?"
"Courtney?"
"I don't think I know a Courtney-"
"She's from Saint John's Hospital."
Pete froze. "S-Saint John-"
"Pete, Patrick is awake!" Ryan said the words as quickly as possible.
"What?!"
"He woke up today and he's asking for you."
"W-Why?"
Ryan frowned. "Because you're his husband."
Pete frowned then.
"Ryan, you know-"
"Jefferson." Ryan called.
"Sir?"
"Take us to Saint John's hospital."
Pete was going to protest. But the look Ryan gave him made him shut up. Instead he sunk into the seat and looked out the window. I guess there were going to see Patrick.
