Meagan slammed the pot against the counter the next morning as she cooked breakfast. She'd closed the cabinet hard enough to break the wood. She was clearly in a bad mood.
Pete glanced up from his coffee but didn't say anything. Because what the hell could he even say? He'd left her in a bar last night alone and pregnant. While he was busy giving Patrick a blowjob in the back of his car. There was no way to explain or apologize. Did they make cards for that?
Brendon groaned as he lifted his groggy head. His eyes landed on the source of all the noise and he frowned.
Patrick walked over and sat Brendon's cup of coffee down in front of him. He gave him an appreciating smile. Patrick took his seat between Brendon and Pete.
"Did you have a nice sleep?" Pete asked Patrick. As if he didn't sleep beside him last night.
"Wonderful sleep." He smiled.
He lifted his phone from its spot on the table. Sliding the screen to unlock it. Pete's eyes slid to it's corners to sneak a glance at what Patrick was doing on his phone. He almost growled when he saw he was texting the guy from the bar.
William: It's broken :(
Patrick: I'm so sorry! You shouldn't have pushed him.
William: I was trying to protect you.
Patrick laughed at the thought of needing protection from Pete. The only thing that needed protection from Pete was his heart. His body needed the opposite. It needed more of Pete. All of Pete.
Patrick: And thank you for that. But I don't need protection from him.
William: I didn't like the way he grabbed you. You shouldn't let him handle you that way.
Patrick: Thank you for your opinion.
William: Oh no. Have I offended you? I'm sorry.
Patrick: Its fine.
William: I want to see you again. Please tell me I can... :)
"Pete!" Meagan grabbed his attention.
He reluctantly looked away from the phone and at the angry woman standing in front of him.
"Yeah?"
"I was just talking to you for three straight minutes." She sighed. "You weren't listening were you?"
"Yes."
"Then what was I saying?"
Shit.
"She was talking about her hair and nails." Pete heard Patrick whisper the words.
"You were talking about your hair and nails." Pete said confidently. As if the answer were his own.
"What? No I wasn't!" She practically yelled. "I was talking about the nursery colors!"
Patrick burst out laughing. He threw his head back and the jovial sounds filled the room. He was laughing so hard that he was starting to shake. His arms clutched his midsection tightly.
"I hope you're laughing at something in that phone?" Meagan placed her hands on her hips.
"Nope." Patrick's laughter died down a little. He wiped the moisture from his eyes.
"You think it's funny that-"
"Meagan." Pete interrupted her. "Lay off him, okay?"
"Why are you always so quick to jump to his rescue?" She yelled. "You've never defended me like that!"
