Ayla sat on the empty bed as she watched her parents and her uncles placed the boxes and her bags into her new room. The tiny room of the hostel was nothing like her room back at home but she had no complains. It was modest enough.
"And that's the last bag" Kev placed a bag on top of a box. "Sure that's all the stuff you need?"
Ayla nodded with a small smile.
"Aye kid, I got you some donuts on the way" Kid walked in with one of Ayla's bags and a donut box in hand. "Got all your favorite flavors"
Ayla took the box and placed it on the bed, thanking Kid for the donuts.
"Are you sure you don't need help unpacking? There sure is a lot of stuff you've got there" Shawn asked, concerned at the amount of things that Ayla's got and given her physical condition, there's no way she could do this all alone.
"I'll be fine, Shawn" Ayla said. "Plus, I've got Cassy dropping by later on. It will do"
Shawn nodded, walked pass the boxes and giving his favorite girl a tight hug, holding her as though he didn't want to let her go. He felt the same way when he felt a few years ago when Cameron first moved to college. As much as Ayla may not be his daughter, he has always thought of her like one.
Hunter remained silent, carrying a guilt in his heart. He knows that Ayla moving in to college and living on her own wasn't exactly the ideal thing but it was nothing but for the best for Ayla.
It's been almost a month since Ayla's career-taking accident and its also been a month of agony for all of them, especially for Ayla. Ayla kept staring into empty space, being in her own world. Whenever they try to make a conversation with her, all she asks is either when she could go back to wrestling or when will Maxon be back and why hasn't he called her or contacted her in any way?
Her condition got worse day by day as she would suddenly start crying and her physical health had gotten worse with her loss of appetite.
It was really hard for Stephanie and Hunter to let go of their daughter especially at this state, but they figured that with Ayla's attention shifted towards her education full time and having kids her age surrounding her may be a better environment for her instead of having her around her wrestling-oriented family who will just keep reminding her of her passion and everything that has happened to her. And they hope it will also take Maxon off her mind for a while. They know it may not be easy for her to take her first ever boyfriend off her mind, but it was the only choice they had.
Moreover, Ayla was stepping into her final year of her degree. It was best if Ayla could do it full time in order to ace it. Hunter and Stephanie never really expected her to ace with perfect scores but Ayla has been able to keep her scores in a really exceptional manner for the past 3 years of her part time degree journey, so they just wanted to keep it that way.
"Hunter?" Stephanie shook Hunter back to reality, bursting his bubbles of thoughts.
Hunter blinked as everyone in the room stared at Hunter in confusion.
"Do you have anything to say to Ayla?" Stephanie asked, rubbing his clothed arm, calming him down. She knows it isn't easy for Hunter to do this. He was totally against this idea when Stephanie first proposed it, but he knew Stephanie was right. Shawn had to convince Hunter as well in this matter, so did Taker, Kid and Kev. It took a lot to convince Hunter to agree to this.
"Yeah, well, uh... I'd like to speak to her alone, so...." Hunter trailed off. "walk with me, honey"
Ayla nodded, taking Hunter's hand that he held out for her and walked behind him as he led her out of the apartment, taking a stroll around the campus. She held onto Hunter's hand tight, as if she didn't want to let him go.
