Hunter held Ayla's hand in his as he lead them into the huge mansion. It was just like how he remembered it from all those year. Not much has changed. Still, it was really clean and well maintained although people barely stayed in it throughout the years. Hunter rang the doorbell, waiting for the door to open.
Dwayne opened the door, welcoming his guests with a warm smile.
"They're both inside" Dwayne said, welcoming them both. He ruffled Ayla's hair before walking behind them.
Hunter couldn't help but stop to look at the huge painting that hung on the wall as he stood at the door entering the living room. He felt a sharp pain in his chest as he looked at the face that he missed so dearly. Ben Rollins, his old friend.
Dwayne patted on Hunter's back, knowing how emotional it must be for Hunter.
Hunter let a small smile before walking deeper into the living room. The interior was pretty much like how he remembered.
He felt Ayla tightened her grip on his hand. He gave a few squeezes on her hand, telling her that it was okay. He felt her move in closer to him, her other hand holding his arm.
"Darcy" Dwayne called, bringing Darcy back to reality. She removed her eyes from the same painting that Hunter was looking before, turning around to meet Ayla and Hunter standing a few feet from her, Dwayne making his way to her side. Shawn remained seated on the chair, as though being in deep thoughts and not even realizing their presence.
Darcy smiled. "Ayla" Darcy walked towards them, running her hand through Ayla's hair before looking up at Hunter.
"How are you, Hunter?" Darcy asked.
"I'm good, Darcy" Hunter said, releasing his grip on Ayla's hand although she was reluctant to let go. He kept both of his hands on Ayla's shoulder, bringing her in front so she stood in front of him, facing Darcy.
Darcy looked at Ayla who's eyes met hers. Oh how much she was fighting with the urge to pull Ayla into a tight hug and kiss her all over and tell her how much she love her right now. But the last thing she wanted to do was to scare her off like how she did the last time.
"Hunter said you wanted to speak to me, Ayla" Darcy said.
"I... I have some questions" Ayla said after some time, gathering all of her strength.
"Come on in" Darcy nodded, pointing at the sofas where Shawn sat, simply looking at them. She was finally able to pull a sigh of relief. Ayla seemed to be in a lot calmer mood today.
Dwayne gave Darcy a hug from the back, nearing his lips to her ears.
"Be patient with her, okay?" Dwayne whispered, careful so the rest wouldn't hear. "She's still a kid and she needs time"
Darcy nodded, patting Dwayne's arms wrapped around her chest before watching as he walked out of the room. She watched as Hunter pulled Ayla aside, consoling her as well.
"I know things aren't as easy as it seems. But I need you to stay calm and never lose courage. I know my little girl can handle anything" Hunter convinced to which Ayla simply nodded.
"If you need anything, just yell for me and I'll come and get you and we'll go home, hmm?" Hunter comforted, holding both her hands. He placed a kiss on her forehead, rubbing the top of her head before walking out of the living room with a heavy heart, closing the door behind him.
Ayla watched as Hunter leave the room. She took a deep breath in, gathering all the courage she could find as she made her way to the sofas where Darcy and Shawn sat in opposite chairs, leaving the middle one empty for Ayla.
