In the halls of Wammy House, where the echoes of footsteps reverberated off the cold walls, your friendship with Mello and Matt was both a sanctuary and a source of contention. The day had dawned like any other, but beneath the facade of routine, tensions simmered, threatening to disrupt the fragile equilibrium of your relationships.
Sitting in the dimly lit common room with Mello, the air felt heavy with unresolved conflict. Mello's usual swagger was replaced by a brooding silence, his thoughts undoubtedly drifting to the enigmatic figure of Near, who remained an enigma, aloof and distant.
"What's eating at you, Mello?" you ventured, breaking the oppressive silence that hung between you like a shroud.
Mello sighed, his expression a mixture of frustration and resentment. "It's Near," he confessed, his voice tinged with bitterness. "I can't stand the way he just... lurks around, like he's better than everyone else."
You nodded in understanding, acutely aware of the rift that had formed between Mello and Near over the years. Despite your own attempts to mediate, the animosity between them seemed insurmountable, a gaping chasm that threatened to swallow your friendship whole.
"I know it's tough, Mello," you said, your tone gentle yet firm. "But maybe there's a way for us to find common ground with Near. We don't have to be friends, but we can at least try to coexist."
Mello grunted in response, his features contorted in a scowl. "Easy for you to say," he muttered, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "You're always so quick to play peacemaker."
Before you could respond, the door to the common room swung open, and Near entered, his presence casting a chill over the room. You exchanged a wary glance with Mello, the tension between them palpable in the air.
"Hello, Near," you greeted, your voice strained with forced civility.
Near nodded in acknowledgment, his expression as inscrutable as ever. "Good afternoon," he replied, his tone devoid of emotion.
As Near settled into a nearby chair, you couldn't help but feel a sense of unease settle over the room. Despite your best efforts to maintain harmony within the confines of Wammy House, the fractures in your relationships with Mello and Near threatened to widen, leaving you caught in the crossfire of their silent war.
