Tyler clears his throat and smiles at his daughters opposite of him. The four are out at lunch. Tyler and Josh finally decided to tell them about their engagement after Josh said to wait until he could properly propose. Josh had set up a romantic candlelit picnic on the beach. Tyler thought it was so cliché and he couldn't have loved it any more. He got his engagement ring, and has done his best to hide it from the girls until they were ready to tell them.
"Josh and I have an announcement," Tyler speaks loudly over the sisters' playful bickering and banter.
The girls settle down and look at the older couple.
"You're getting married?!" Dakota exclaims, hopeful.
Tyler sighs, "Can I speak, please?"
"Sorry."
The brunette looks at Josh who smiles. Tyler looks back at the twins and slaps his hand on the table, exposing the black band on his finger.
The girls cheer in excitement, both standing up from their chairs and hugging the men.
"When's the wedding?"
"Next week," Josh answers.
"Next week?!"
"We don't want a big thing," Tyler explains. "Just close family and friends. We have someone for a witness and someone who will marry us. We're not having a big ceremony, but we'll celebrate with everyone."
"Are you going on a honeymoon?"
"We talked about it, but nothing is set in stone yet."
"Do we get to be there when you actually get married though?"
"Of course. We're having it at the house, it's just not going to be a whole ceremony. We'll get food catered though, and have music and a small reception or dinner with everyone afterwards."
Dakota grins, "Congratulations, guys! I'm so excited!"
Tyler smiles as the sisters begin talking about the wedding after party and suggesting ideas for it.
-
Tyler sighs nervously as Dallon ties his bowtie for him.
"Why am I nervous?"
Dallon smiles, "I don't know. It's exciting."
Tyler grins, "I'm so happy."
"You should be. It's a big milestone in life. And plus," Dallon standing up to tie his own tie in the mirror, "Josh isn't ugly."
Tyler chuckles, "True."
Dylan knocks on the bathroom door and smiles at her dad and Dallon, "How's it going? Are we ready?"
"Good, and I think so."
The teen walks in and wraps her arms around Tyler's waist, "I'm proud of you, dad. You look so handsome. I love you."
Tyler hugs her back and kisses her head, "I love you, sweetheart. You look beautiful."
"Dakota had to tuck the flaps into the dress," Dylan laughs, turning around and showing Tyler the open backed dress. "I couldn't zip it."
Tyler grins, "That's okay. You can't tell."
"Where is Dakota?" Dallon asks.
"Putting her makeup on. Oh! I have a surprise for you!" Dylan sticks her head out the door and shouts for Elton.
The Great Dane trots in happily and sits outside the bathroom, a bow tie hugging his neck.
Tyler laughs, "Look at my handsome man! That's what I'm talking about. High five."
Elton paws at Tyler's hand when he sticks it out.
"Daddy, are you ready?"
Tyler looks at Dakota as she enters the room.
"Josh is ready, and everyone is sitting down already."
Tyler gives a calm smile as he looks at her, "You look beautiful. Both of you do, oh my god, look at you two! You're so grown."
"Don't get too emotional, big guy, you haven't seen Josh yet," Dylan smirks.
"Right. But, yes, I am ready."
-
The backyard is decorated with string lights and flowers, a light wooded arch positioned at the end of the aisle for Tyler and Josh, and chairs for the guests on either side of the walkway. A long table is set up with catered food, a couple tables to eat at since there aren't many people, and a separate table for their cake and other desserts that Dakota and Dylan were more than excited to make.
Tyler and Josh stand under the arch, hand in hand, repeating the words given to them.
"I, Tyler, take you, Josh, to be my lawfully wedded husband. To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse. For richer, for poorer. In sickness and in health, until death do us part."
"By the power vested in me by the state of Ohio, I now pronounce you husband and husband. Josh, you may kiss your groom."
Josh grins and pulls Tyler close, pressing his lips against the brunette's deeply. Applause and cheers ring from their friends and family.
Dylan wraps her arms around Mercury's waist as the newly weds walk down the aisle and start conversing with everyone.
After about an hour of celebrating with music playing from the speakers, Tyler calls everyone to eat. Dylan and Dakota sit next to the couple, plates of food in front of them.
"Dylan, eat some actual food, not just dessert."
"But there's brownies."
"I know, but you can't have chocolate for dinner."
Dylan shoves the rest of her brownie into her mouth, keeping eye contact with her dad. He rolls his eyes and takes a bite of his own food.
"So, Josh," Dakota says, catching the man's attention. She smiles sweetly at him, making him nervous. "Now that you're our stepdad, we're not showing mercy. Just saying."
"Y-you showed mercy before?"
Dylan, Dakota, and Tyler all nod at him. Josh looks at his husband, "Uh, Ty, I think we should see other people."
Tyler busts into laughter, "You. Fucking. Wish." He holds up his left hand, "Til death do us part, motherfucker."
Josh laughs, "I love you."
"I love you," Tyler smiles.
"And I love you, girls," the man say, sincerely.
"We love you, Josh," Dakota smiles. "Welcome to the family."
